The Bedok Green field is pretty near to the field we played at last week at Damai Sec.

Make the necessary transport arrangements if need be.

Fresh start for Mavericks! Amir has been top scorer in pre-season, will he be able to keep up? Or will his obsession with Jeanette Aw drag him down?

League Registration Information

To my fellow Outsiders,

I am glad that the league proposal was supported by a good number of committed players today after the well-fought victory against Bedok Blues. To ease Clement's increasing burden (who has been organising matches for us in the past 2 years f.o.c), we decided that the best alternative is to pay a little more for a third party organisation to continue to bring us weekend soccer with an extra competitiveness involved. We'll begin in the lower leagues, as a debutant in amateur league football, and we'll work our way up based on performance.

We have a tight budget to work with, and as a student myself, I understand some potential concerns half the team may have. So we are very fortunate to clinch an affordable shirt deal through Chin Yuen. We'll standardise the top and bottom of our jersey as one team for this league. If the shorts deal does not fit our budget, we'll probably only standardise the colour of the shorts.

For the others who have not yet gotten the news, here are some of the details given to me by Clement,

League start: 3 Jan 2009, 3pm, Saturday
Cost per match: $100 (we currently pay $90 per game arranged by a referee, of which, $60 is for referee fees)
Cost per pax: $8
Deposit for 1st 2 matches: $200 (to be paid upfront)
Squad size (total registered): 20
Squad size (match day): 15
Cost of new jersey top: $9/pax (Tentatively selected to be a light colour)

*Our team page will also feature on http://d2dsports.com/

Mavericks extends fine away run

Date: 28 Dec 2008

FT Score: Bedok Blues FC 2 - 4 Mavericks FC

Scorers: Darran ('20), Seng Yew ('45), Chuan Ji ('71 pen), Jerome ('83)
Assist: Chung Wei, Darran, Amir
MOM: Darran
Yellow Card: Seng Yew

Line up - Alex (GK), Clement (LB), Jiun Wei (CB), Chin Yuen(CB), Chris Ramos (RB), Amir (LM), Wei Jie (CM), Clarence (CM), Darran (RM), Chung Wei (CF), Midzi (CF)

Subs: Chao Xing, Chuan Ji, Jerome, Seng Yew

Mavericks FC continued their revival under their new cute owner with another priceless away victory at the Stadio delle Damai with a 4-2 win against the Bedok Blues. This extended their great run of results consecutively away from home to 4 games, something the Outsiders haven't been able to achieve before.

After early pressure from the Blues, and a controversial decision by the referee to let play go on even though the ball had went out of play, led to a goal as the winger chipped in a cross for their star striker to half-volley home. 0-1. However, the Outsiders fought back, with Chung Wei, who got the ball rolling with a fine surge down the right flank, and squared a sweet cross for the onrushing Darran to tap it home. 1-1. Then another decision went against the men in black, as the striker was felled in the box, and the resulting penalty went in, although custodian Alex had dived the right way and even got a hand to it. 1-2.

Mavericks had several glorious chances to get back into the game, notably their new 45 million pound explosive signing Midzi, who burst past the whole defence, only to see his shot go just wide. Amir had a super off-day, missing a host of sitters. The after-effects of his steamboat party the night before, apparent in his lethargic display.

The Outsiders did several tactical tweaks for the second half, with Chuan Ji shifting to central midfield, while understudy centre-back Chin Yuen continued his recent good form in defence as well as the Gatusso-like Clarence cleaning things up deep in midfield alongside Wei Jie.
Skipper Chao Xing, who passed a late fitness test, moved to right-back.

Seng Yew, who was booked for an earlier two-footed lunge (which he said wasn't intentional), shocked the Stadio delle Damai, with a wubbolous lob right from the second half kick-off, which sailed over the keeper and into the net to make it 2-2. Definitely, one of the contenders for goal of the century! From here on, Mavericks went on to dominate the game, with the Mavericks rearguard particularly impressive, with the likes of Clement and Jiun Wei holding the defence together. Darran and Chris totally owned the left flank, with the Blues defence barely able to catch their breath. Explosive striker Midzi was a constant thorn in the Blue's arse and it was looking more and more like a win for the Outsiders.

Then, Darran was felled in the penalty box from a late challenge, and up stepped Mavericks veteran Chuan Ji who smashed the penalty into the net with aplomb! His first ever goal for the Outsiders! 3-2. Late on in the game, Amir cut past the full-back and sent in a low cross for Jerome to place it superbly into the bottom corner of the net, and thus killing the game off for the Blues. 4-2. The winger could have helped himself to a goal in the last minute of play, but the referee bastard blow final whistle. Bloody hell.

Mavericks extends their great away run, with a thrilling comeback victory! It was a great team effort by the Outsiders, and may this great run continue! Final Score 4-2.

He Liu Ru Xue

Our attacking Centre back Chuan Ji has taken part in this drama series directed by the famous Singapore born, Oxford trained director, Seng Yew. Director Seng feels that Chuan Ji possessed this inborn cool emotionless expression on his face that is both seductive and powerful. This explained why he chose him for this drama - He Liu Ru Xue.

He Liu Ru Xue which means blood flowing like river or river flowing like blood will be aired soon on Channel 3457. The release date will be announced at the start of the year 2009. The show is about 3 brothers fighting for the love of the beautiful Liu Xue. She is known for her beauty and sexy lips. In order to spice up things abit, director Seng has decided to add in a make out scene for Chuan Ji and Liu Xue. In this show, Clement and Chris are playing the love rivals of Chuan Ji. It was believed that Chris Ramos wanted to turn down this show due to the lack of kissing scenes for him in this show. He was also disappointed that Clement is going to show off his six pack while he can only do a wet t-shirt scene. Being the good old friend of Chris Ramos, director Seng finally convinced Chris to stay as he promised to bring him to Double O more often and introduce him to some of his female sexy friends who are going to act in Lust, Caution 2.

It is rumored that the production cost will hit at least 2 million dollars. Hopefully, this show will pull in more female fans for Mavericks FC and attract more sponsors for the upcoming League we might be joining.

3 Cheers for Chris, Clement, Chuan Ji and Director Seng.

Latest News

Here, we bring u another edition of The Outsiders Times, YOUR only source of news for Mavericks FC and everything else associated with the club.

  • First and foremost, the Mavericks Board would like to wish all those who are linked with the club a very blissful Merry Christmas. The owner has issued a statement to the press that despite the festive period, the players have been repeatedly reminded to cut down on the turkey and wine as they look to extend their good start to the season, after 2 victories and a draw in their opening matches. She has further reinforced that should the need for the players to "release" arises, her door is open 24/7. And players caught late partying during this Christmas period will be subsequently dropped and might even be released (no pun intended) on a free transfer during the upcoming transfer window.

  • With the advent of the January Transfer Window, several clubs are frantically searching the market for new arrivals to bolster their respective squads. Mavericks FC is no different, and after last week's moral boosting win at The Katong, the team is sure to strike up permanent deals to secure several loan signings who starred in that match. Right-back Chris' place in the team is under threat after Mavericks FC 's youth player, nicknamed, "Gf's bro 2" had a brilliant game last weekend, totally owning the right flank as if he has been playing there for years already. Journalists managed to track down Chris at a bar, but they found him too drunk already to comment on this.

  • The Outsiders Times is kick-starting a brand new weekly interviews column for the new season! This week, we have Mavericks custodian Alex, who was interviewed after the match last week, regarding his introduction as an outfield player in last weekend's 2-0 victory:-

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Journalist: Hello Alex, just taking 5 minutes of your time. So how was it like, playing as an outfield player?
Alex: It was a great experience, actually it was my 2nd time playing as an outfield player.
But this time, it's different, as i played almost one whole half, playing different positions.
Journalist: I understand that you actually played as a lone striker, and then u switched to defensive midfielder, to bolster the midfield. And it worked great for the team!
How was it like?
Alex: Well, playing as striker was BORING la! As for playing DM, it was actually fun, and it's always nice to help the team win by other means, instead of me always saving and diving full stretch using my Spiderman reflexes and all. But it was fun, being in the thick of the action once in a while.
Journalist: That's nice to hear. By the way, do you feel that your place in the team is under threat? Especially with the emergence of the youth team goalkeeper, aptly named "Gf's Bro 1".
It is a well-known fact that he had a brilliant debut last week, and to top it all off, he made a brilliant one-handed reflex save at point blank range. Something, yourself would be proud of!
Alex: Yes, yes, he had a great match. But matters of who becomes first-choice keeper or who makes the line-up is up to the manager. Well, if i'm not first choice keeper anymore, no worries. I can always challenge Seng Yew and Amir in midfield! Now that i've got experience playing in their positions!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • The Owner has signaled her intentions to bolster the squad with a list of possible transfer targets this coming transfer window. "We've already shortlisted several new faces to come join our team of cute boys! I want a couple of back-up players; a new full-back who can play either flank...because Chris is going to be busy with me for a few months (oooh those muscles! =p)." "Oh Clement? Hmm, he's busy with some other girl. Sighs" (pouts her lips). "I don't think there is a need to buy new strikers, because currently our adorable strike partnership of Wei Long and Randy is doing really well, plus we'll have Zhi Fei back soon. "Anyway, I think we need to find a left winger too, who can actually defend!!". Several transfer targets are being lined up at the moment as we speak.

  • The infamous explosive new signing, who was signed almost 4 months ago, is yet to make his debut. The fans are starting to get restless and irritated by said player's no-show, and several protesters have gathered outside the club's home ground last weekend, demanding that he show up. Which of course, he didn't. This time though, he claimed that he had a headache and was in no condition to face the public. Previously, he cited reasons as having no proper footwear to play with as well as waking up too late on matchday. The board is afraid to take action and fine him, because he might just not appear for the court hearing because he forgot to wear his underpants.

  • Mavericks FC favourite ref Charles has been sidelined, after being beaten up by hooligans in a championship match. The team wishes all their condolences for the Nigerian-born referee, and no news has been heard whatsover regarding his return to the pitch. The team will make a special trip down to the city hospital and pay him a visit, coupled by several gifts of his favourite dishes, Jollof Rice and Chinchin.

That's all for this edition of The Outsiders Times.
Comments very much welcomed.

Breaking News: Mavericks FC linked with Thai playmaker

Mavericks FC are rumoured to have secured the signature of Datsakorn Thonglao. A price of $6.59 and a $200 Golden Mile voucher has been said to be agreed with V-league outfit Hoang Anh Gai Lai.

Tribalbollox.com says Datsakorn had long been unhappy to be playing for a side with such a shit name and had been looking for a move. Mavericks FC is preparing for the D2D league and the news will no doubt please many fans.

Saturday morning happy happy fun stroll day

Date: 20 Dec 2008

FT Score: Katong Soccer Legends 0 - 2 Mavericks FC

Scorer: Amir ( '2, '40 )
Assist: Nil
MOM: Amir

Line up: Gf's Bro 1 (GK), Darran (LB), Chuan Ji (CB), Alvin Tham (CB), Gf's Bro 2 (RB), Amir (LW), Chin Yuen (CM), Faizy (CM), Pei Cheng (CM), Wei Long (RW), Randy (ST)

Subs: Barry, Bryant, Seng Yew, Alex, Wei Jie

The Ah Tiong blow kick off, he is very happy because the field is like home to him and got the mini excavator. VERY NICE! At the start the other team pass back then they miscontrol ball then Amir go in then GOALLLLLL! one zero. Then after that the other team pass the ball here n pass there but no use because they cannot shoot. So Mavericks counter attack and Amir solo but he also forgot how to shoot so dont have GOALLLLLLL!!. Later Darran who play left back because i dont know why also try solo solo but he also forgot how to shoot so he just pass the ball to the keeper because its the season of caring n giving n something like that. Amir then around 40 minute that time get the ball then just dribble all the way like George Weah like that then GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! It is VERY NICE! Later 2nd half also same thing, cause the other team take the ball whack only, the keeper also fuckin nothing to do, just pick the ball from the drain. So Alex decide to play striker cause he think he wear real madrid shirt will become Francisco Pavon. The sun then get hotter also because Al Gore say we use car the exhaust make hole in sky, so after a while Ah Tiong also cannot take it so he blow final whistle. Finish thank u very much.

Mavericks held to high-scoring draw

Date: 14 Dec 2008

FT Score: Punggol North CSC 3 - 3 Mavericks FC

Scorers: Amir ('27, '75) Jun Wen ('33 pen)
Assist: Jerome, Jun Wen
MoM: Seng Yew

Line up - Alex (GK), Clement (LB), Jiun Wei (CB), Chuan Ji (CB), Chris Ramos (RB), Amir (LM), Seng Yew (CM), Clarence (CM) Chao Xing (CM), Darran (RM), Jerome (CF)

Subs - Barry, Chin Yuen, Jun Wen

Kadaloor, Punggol - Mavericks FC were held to a highly entertaining score draw on Saturday against Punggol North CSC in a match which the Outsiders could have won, after they finished the stronger of the two sides.

A rain-soaked pitch proved a disservice for the team in black, as they had to adapt to the wayward conditions of the field, which the home-team were already vastly familiar with. Mavericks were missing their influential midfielder Chung Wei, star striker Randy and the on-form Weilong and Fuad, as they welcomed back the return of Seng Yew, who put in a man-of-match performance on Sunday.

Punggol FC drew first blood, as their striker pounced on a defensive error; the usually capable Mavericks backline undone by the irregularity and slipperiness of the pitch. However, flamboyant winger Amir made a priceless intervention, as he pegged one back, after a tentalising one-two with Jerome (who undid the defence with a cruyff-turn-reverse pass) at the edge of the box, before sidefooting it past the keeper into the bottom corner of the net. 1-1.

The Mavericks midfield were doing well to contain the slick passing game of their opponents, who were clad in red, a symbol of the Punggolian courage, which has a rich and diverse history. Punggol Point or Tanjong Punggol appears as Tanjong Rangon on an 1828 map of Singapore. Punggol, also spelt as Ponggol, means "hurling sticks at the branches of fruit trees to bring them down to the ground" in Malay. It could also refer to a place where fruits and forest produce are offered wholesale and carried away. These possible names indicate that Punggol was a fruit growing district. The place is said to take its name from the river Sungei Punggol. Yet another interpretation is that it is a rendezvous point for those who await the wholesale agent who buys and takes the produce to the market. (source: Wikiepedia)

The Punggolians did not rest on their laurels, as they restored their lead soon. The Outsiders needed to take back their stranglehold of the game, and thus, switched to a 4-5-1 formation, with almost immediate results. Mavericks introduced several new faces into the fray, including new striker signing Jun Wen who scored a great double in his debut last week as well as anchorman Chin Yuen and midfield general Barry .

Soon enough, they equalised again through a penalty. Amir, who was tackled late from behind for the 1,347th time in the game, was felled in the penalty box. Up stepped Jun Wen, who duly dispatched it with a superbly taken penalty to make things square again. 2-2. Mavericks were upping the ante, with Darran's penetrating runs, and Chris with his Ramos-like bursts down the right. Mavericks nearly scored again, after great interplay between Jun Wen and Amir as the latter did a "rabona" cross for the striker to shoot, only to see the keeper save it.

Second half was an impactful affair, with both sides battling for possession in the heart of midfield. Chin Yuen, Barry, loan signing Clarence and the particularly effectively hardworking Seng Yew played their hearts out, as the Punggolian defence was split time and time again. Darren had a shot saved, after yet another trademark run down the wing. Also, Chuan Ji nearly got his name on the scoresheet for the first time in Mavericks colours, only to see his drilled header smack against the post and go out.

Alex, at the other end, was brilliant as usual, with important one-on-one saves. "I would recommend Italian clubs to buy Alex Hong from Mavericks,” stated Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni before the match .“He resembles Gianluigi Buffon and I am not exaggerating when I say this. “He is a born goalkeeper and there is a vacancy for players like this in Serie A.” Many fans agree with this, and we're sure of it.

However, to no avail, another defensive slip-up, literally, due to the wet pitch, gave Punggol FC another chance to take the lead. 3-2. However, the Outsiders were not about to give up just yet, as once again, great link-up play ended with Jun Wen releasing the ball to Amir, who, was mauled and manhandled (in the jaws, legs), and hacked down, but, just before he managed to stick in a foot and slot it past the keeper to make it 3-3.

Right at the death, skipper Chao Xing lifted a great ball into the box for Jun Wen, who managed to nip it past the keeper, only to see the ball roll across the goal-line, with Barry arriving just a split-second too late to tuck in the rebound. Final Score 3-3.

In the post-match press conference, the new owner expressed her delight at seeing her side put in a brave, courageous display, and signals her intention to bolster the Mavericks squad with a new left winger, after seeing the Mavericks No.14 barely surviving such an onslaught from their tenacious opponents. "I think it's time we get a new left-winger. At this rate, i don't think he'll be able to last half the season! Anyway, it was a really good team effort, and umm....is Clement free tonite? I wanna see his chest muscles!" (puts two fingers at her cheeks and poses).

The post-match conference also included a simply sublime "taupok" on veteran defender Jiun Wei for his birthday! One which he enjoyed very much!

    9-1 thrashing of Rantau Rovers FC

    First match of the new season

    Date: 6 Dec 2008

    FT Score: Rantau Rovers FC 1 - 9 Mavericks FC

    Scorers: Wei Long ('11, '35), Amir ('20, '87), Chin Yuen ('39, '71), Randy ('66), Jun Wen ('75, '82)
    Assist: Randy, Chung Wei (2), Amir, Wei Long, Fuad
    Yellow Card: Chao Xing
    MoM: Chung Wei

    First Half

    Line up - Alex (GK), Clement (LB), Jiun Wei (LCB), Chuan Ji (RCB), Chris Ramos (RB), Amir (LM), Chin Yuen (CM), Chao Xing (CM), Chung Wei (RM), Wei Long (LF), Randy (RF).

    Subs - Barry and Fuad.

    It was a good comeback for the team. Wei Long started the scoring with his nose with assist from Randy. Minutes later, Amir dribbled past the whole defence and placed the ball into the right bottom corner. Randy had a shot saved by keeper followed by a shot across the goal line. No luck! Wei long somehow placed the ball past everyone in the penalty box from a Chung Wei's corner. Chin Yuen plead to have a chance to fulfill his potential as a striker with goal hero Wei long dropping to the midfield. Another great cross and run from Chung Wei allow Chin Yuen to score his first mavericks goal. Finally! Other than the goals, Randy hit the bar once and Chris Ramos made a few threatening runs from right back and a obvious dive that went unpunished. First half 4-0.

    Second Half

    Line up - Alex (GK), Jiun Wei (LB), Clement (LCB), Chuan Ji (RCB), Chris Ramos (RB), Amir (LM), Barry (CM), Faud (CM), Chung Wei (RM), Wei Long (LF), Randy (RF).

    Subs - Chin Yuen, Chao Xing and Jun Wen (guest player)

    Randy finally did himself justice by scoring a wonderful header after 5 mins into second half. The assist came from Amir after he dribbled past 2 players and sent a looping cross over the defence for Randy. 5-0! 10 mins into the second half, 3 substitutes were made with guest player Jun Wen replacing Randy, Chin Yuen replacing Amir and Chao Xing replacing Chung Wei. Chin Yuen increased his tally to 2 by finishing off a good team move. He passed the ball to Jiun Wei who is now playing left back with him passing the ball to Wei Long. Wei Long displayed good vision to loop a cross to Chin Yuen who controlled the ball and sent a looping shot with his right foot to the top right hand corner of the post leaving the keeper with no chance. 6-0! Guest player Jun Wen did well by scoring a deep cross from Fuad at the end of the left hand goalpost with a free header. 7-0!

    Amir and Chung Wei replaced Wei long and Clement as Mavericks looked to increase the scoreline. Amir did another dazzling run and score again.8-0! Dream of keeping a clean sheet was shattered when Chao Xing brought down an opponent in the penalty box. It was a light shoulder push and the opponents dropped to the group as if he is shot!. 8-1 as the opponents try to make the scoreline more respectable. 2 mins later, Chris Ramos had a cramp at his left or right calf, cant remember, haha. Must his dive, runs and morning street soccer. Randy replaced him. Guest player Jun Wen won the ball from the opponents' central defender and scored with a powerful shot into the centre of the net, leaving the goal keeper with no chance. Great goal! 9-1! At the end of the game, Chin Yuen missed two good opportunities to complete his hat trick, too bad.

    9-1 is the score. Next match will be against Liverpool FC, it will not be so easy as they are sitting comfortably at the top of the premier league after a goalless draw with West Ham. Please do not be complacent! haha.

    New Season! Big News!

    A new season awaits, finally, for the Outsiders after a rather tumultuous end to last season. Major boardroom troubles coupled by various internal scuffles ensued, as well as several disciplinary issues and injuries have clouded the Mavericks' previous season, after such a promising start.

    The Maverickian owner came under-fire after several off-season decisions, which effectively halted the drive of the players to perform on the pitch, notably obvious in the run of defeats towards the end of last season. The owner, having been seen as the 'Messiah', for turning around the fortunes of the club in early 2007, was seen as the focal point of a new era for the Outsiders, with several notable big name signings over the past year or so (except for that portuguese, Jeremiah, of course).

    The club was given a new lease of life, and were rejuvenated under this new regime, and ultimately, the fans were appeased in what was a successful 2007 for Mavericks FC. However, things began to look bleak, and very much far from what it had been, personified by the rather indifferent footballing year of 2008.

    Several protests were made outside their home ground, with protesters demanding a change of ownership during the pre-season. Their hopes were dashed, however, as several US-based and Hong Kong investors were chased out of the market due to the recent sub-prime crisis as several banks defaulted and collapsed under the pressure, leaving the current Maverickian owner having no choice but to press on with the club's financial dealings.

    Several further bank failures and government bailouts of financial firms did not help the situation at all. With the club running the risk of liquidation, several club shareholders have sold all their assets and backed out, leaving behind the Maverickian owner, who now owns a 100% stake in the club's shareholder stock. This worsened the situation, with many club season ticket holders expressing their disgust at such a monopoly of power. This further internal dissension grew, and the transfer of ownership saga dragged on, and now, the fans have grown impatient.

    It's high time the deluded Stade de Sembawang faithful win something, after what was a barren season, coupled by the poorly-timed decisions of the transfer of one of their most-prized players, Boon Leng, to X-S FC as well as the releasing of star striker Zhi Fei on loan to Taiwan Shihlin FC. Furthermore, several injuries to Chung Wei and Kee Siang have ensured that things would not be smooth for the Outsiders towards the end of last season.

    However, at a recent press conference a fortnight ago at the club's reception room, the owner has released details on an "almost-done deal" regarding the selling of the club's ownership rights to an unidentified interested buyer. Reliable sources have described the new owner as being effective and ambitious with the drive to fuel the passion of the fans. Further sources have even mentioned that the new owner is a very young, yet, powerful presence in the Asian market.

    Latest reports have even quoted the new owner at a press conference as saying that the club is just simply
    "太烦恼 !!! (Too Much Trouble!!!)" and it is up to her to change that and bring the club back to where it belongs.

    The Mavericks fans hope that this will be the start of a new era and signs are already showing that this will be a much, much better season, as the queues for the season opener have started since last week.

    Here's a treat from the new owner as well!

    At the moment, it looks like the new owner has already garnered unwavering support and the fans can't hardly wait for the action to resume, and the club to start getting back on their winning ways again.

    May the force be with the Outsiders!
