Mavericks FC continued their revival under their new cute owner with another priceless away victory at the Stadio delle Damai with a 4-2 win against the Bedok Blues. This extended their great run of results consecutively away from home to 4 games, something the Outsiders haven't been able to achieve before.
After early pressure from the Blues, and a controversial decision by the referee to let play go on even though the ball had went out of play, led to a goal as the winger chipped in a cross for their star striker to half-volley home. 0-1. However, the Outsiders fought back, with Chung Wei, who got the ball rolling with a fine surge down the right flank, and squared a sweet cross for the onrushing Darran to tap it home. 1-1. Then another decision went against the men in black, as the striker was felled in the box, and the resulting penalty went in, although custodian Alex had dived the right way and even got a hand to it. 1-2.
Mavericks had several glorious chances to get back into the game, notably their new 45 million pound explosive signing Midzi, who burst past the whole defence, only to see his shot go just wide. Amir had a super off-day, missing a host of sitters. The after-effects of his steamboat party the night before, apparent in his lethargic display.
The Outsiders did several tactical tweaks for the second half, with Chuan Ji shifting to central midfield, while understudy centre-back Chin Yuen continued his recent good form in defence as well as the Gatusso-like Clarence cleaning things up deep in midfield alongside Wei Jie.
Skipper Chao Xing, who passed a late fitness test, moved to right-back.
Seng Yew, who was booked for an earlier two-footed lunge (which he said wasn't intentional), shocked the Stadio delle Damai, with a wubbolous lob right from the second half kick-off, which sailed over the keeper and into the net to make it 2-2. Definitely, one of the contenders for goal of the century! From here on, Mavericks went on to dominate the game, with the Mavericks rearguard particularly impressive, with the likes of Clement and Jiun Wei holding the defence together. Darran and Chris totally owned the left flank, with the Blues defence barely able to catch their breath. Explosive striker Midzi was a constant thorn in the Blue's arse and it was looking more and more like a win for the Outsiders.
Then, Darran was felled in the penalty box from a late challenge, and up stepped Mavericks veteran Chuan Ji who smashed the penalty into the net with aplomb! His first ever goal for the Outsiders! 3-2. Late on in the game, Amir cut past the full-back and sent in a low cross for Jerome to place it superbly into the bottom corner of the net, and thus killing the game off for the Blues. 4-2. The winger could have helped himself to a goal in the last minute of play, but the referee bastard blow final whistle. Bloody hell.
Mavericks extends their great away run, with a thrilling comeback victory! It was a great team effort by the Outsiders, and may this great run continue! Final Score 4-2.
