In this exciting match-up all the way to the west, Chris is set to continue fielding as a centre-half after his fantastic performance the previous weekend. The 24 year old said that age is catching up on him & he can no longer run down the flanks like before and that playing as a centre-back is more suitable for him now. Jiun Wei was spotted giggling to himself as he heard this.

Club captain, XiNgZo, may be giving Alex's first-team spot as a keeper a run after his performance garnered a clean sheet. It was something that Alex couldn't achieve since 23 months. However, it was said that if Alex can bring in some LG/Samsung babes to support future matches, he will be able to cement his first-team spot forever.

Mavericks Wins!

FT Score: Mavericks FC 1 Mat Play Soccer FC 0

Scorers
: Amir ('80)
Assist: Jerome
MOMs:

.Chao Xing (world-class goalkeeper! Clean Sheet somemore!)
.Faizy (world-class centre-midfielder!)
.Chris (world-class centre-back!)

More than 30,000 fans turned up at the Loftus Versfeld Northview Stadium to watch the game, but were let down by a below-par MPSFC, who ended their tour to Yishun on a low - they lost two and won one match in the Singapore Football Galaticos Challenge tournament.

In the end it was Amir's effort minutes before full-time that proved the difference between the two sides.

After a quiet start, Kee Siang started showing his silky world-class-ness dragging past 4 player after the opening 14 minutes, only to see his resulting shot saved by the keeper.

Wei Long then had a great chance to give his side the lead, only to be given the offside after being put through by Randy brilliantly.

But Play Soccer FC youngster Faiz Bin Yusof, a product of the club's academy, was not so fortunate and was forced off the field after 20 minutes after his foot got stuck in the turf after a great shot on target with which Mavericks goalkeeper Captain Chao Xing dealt with comfortably.

Jerome had the first real chance for his side after another good cross from the left touchline by the lively Chung Wei, but his 18-yard shot just short of the half-hour mark was straight at the Chiefs goalkeeper.

The visitors then made a change shortly after the break replacing Jiun Wei with Chris as the Mavericks businessman swapped positions with the cultured right-back.

This proved a superb tactical move as having Chris at centre-back felt like a new signing altogether for the Outsiders as he formed a formidable partnership with Chuan Ji in the centre of defence.

In front of goal, all the signs continued to look encouraging with Faizee, Clement and Wei Jie linking up nicely, until the final ball, which let Chao Xing' side down.

But it was the visiting goalkeeper Matty McMat that was forced to make the first real save, which was in the 41st minute when Randy's shot caused the Malaysian international to dive low to his left and tip the ball wide.

Mavericks were dominant in midfield, as the tireless Faizee and the hardworking Wei Jie pulled the strings in midfield with Oreo threatening the opposition defence with every touch.

And then, Amir almost helped his side snatch a great goal when his perfectly weighted through-ball sent Kee Siang clear, who dragged his shot just wide off the post with the keeper beaten.

Then, Jerome caused panic in the penalty area and and squared it to Amir who rounded the keeper before driving the ball home from close-range to hand his side a well-deserved lead.

Oreo then beat the offside trap only to see the ball fall from his grasp due to the bumpy pitch at the last moment when put through one-on-one with the keeper.

It was to prove inconsequential however, as Mavericks held on to be crowned the Singapore Football Galaticos.

A legendary performance between the sticks by Captain Chao Xing in goal has left the media loss for words as well as a heroic world-class performance from ex-rightback Chris in the centre of defence ensured that victory was always within reach for the Outsiders. Faizee turned in another superb performance, adding a tenacity that was clearly missing in the Mavericks' previous match. FT: 1-0

A Harish Indy specialty, this delicious bread is a popular round the clock snack served in many 24hr coffeeshops. There are several variations, either served plain or with eggs/minced mutton and Onion(called murtabak) wrapped in. While some like it with just a sprinkle of Sugar. I like it served with a curry and a cup of Teh Tarik(strong Indian milk tea). Well made prata is light, crispy and not greasy.

Latest News

Here, we bring u another edition of The Outsiders Times, YOUR only source of news for Mavericks FC and everything else associated with the club.

In latest news, guest columnist Seksi Moroni, who was invited to write the match preview for the upcoming match between the Outsiders and indonesian outfit Rantau Rovers, has been sentenced to 6 months in a gay jail.

He was caught by the police in a late night raid at his Changi penthouse busily preparing the match review for FC Pantattes, an Indonesian football club based in the Yogyakarta province.

Seksi Moroni was heavily involved with football clubs based overseas, the most recent was the NUS Vietnamese Students United FC (Operation Team Helicopter FC) who clashed with the Outsiders a couple of months back at Broadrick.

After reviews from internationally-reknowned columnists, the match preview for the upcoming match for the Outsiders written by Seksi Moroni was deemed unsuitable for public viewing, due to it's myriad of sexual innuendos in context, and furthermore, it's obvious plagiarised materials which was taken in whole from the classic adult indonesian novel, "P.S. I Busok You".

In other news, Mavericks FC will look to extend their outstanding winning run to 2 games in this Saturday's home encounter with Rantau Rovers. The fans are overjoyed that the team are playing at home at the Stade de Sembawang finally after such a long time.

The last time the Outsiders played at home was on the 27th of September 2008, in a 2-2 draw with Insert FC.

Not only is it a milestone for the team, it is also important to note that if flamboyant winger Amir plays this Saturday and scores, he will be the first player in the history of Mavericks FC to notch 50 goals for the club. And there is no better way to do it than in front of the home fans.

The last time these two sides met, was in Dec last year, whereby the Outsiders had their biggest win ever, in a sound 9-1 victory.

However, things will go differently now, with their opponents having signed 4 Brazillian players from Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, the Brazilian professional football team based in Porto Alegre.

This will be a difficult task for the Outsiders, and they have to work hard if they are to get anything from the game and extend their unbeaten run to 2 games. But one thing's for sure, they will be buoyed by the home support behind them.

Captain Chao Xing returns to the starting line-up after his overseas stint to promote the Mavericks Brand, however, tenacious midfielder Faizy is out, because he's in love.

The infamous "Helicopter" move as made famous by Mavericks right-back Chris, has become passé. There is now a new trend in town, which has taken the world by storm, which is called the "Merry-go-round". More details to come soon regarding this ancient technique of love-making.

That's all for this edition of The Outsiders Times.
Comments very much welcomed.

Mavericks Loses Wins! Yay-ness!

(This is a real match report! No longer system error! Finally!)

Mavericks FC starts their "SEASON" with a sensational 3-2 victory over Harish Indy FC!

Scorers: Amir ('27, '66), Khai ('38)
Assist: Khai, Amir, Faizy
MOM: Faizy

Mavericks FC starts their season with a hard-fought victory against Harish Indy FC as they put their horrendous pre-season form behind.

An amazing 12-match beaten streak preceded before the match, a historic event that will long live in the club's checkered past. A timely end to a run of results, something which even Sengkang Punggol FC wouldn't be proud of.

It was a gruelling, tactical affair, as both sides look to hit on the break. The Outsiders started well, with the glorious overlapping runs from both fullbacks/posterboys Clement and Chris, stretching the opposition defence, and a masterclass performance in the middle of the park from Faizy. The proof that love can do wonders to one's body and mind.

Seng Yew played in an unorthodox left wing position, putting in an unorthodox performance with his cultured left foot, with forwards Khai and Amir threatening with every attack.

Harish Indy FC always looked composed and fat when on the ball, however, the Mavericks defence held firm and resolute. Mavericks took a deserved lead, when Khai split the defence with a brilliant past, releasing Amir who finished it in style, with a rabona into the open goal. 1-0.

Despite the setback, Harish Indy FC, captained by the Tall Indian/Russian Striker, made it difficult for the men in black, but it was nothing the Mavericks defence led by Chuan Ji couldn't handle.

Then, against the run of play, after a brilliant exchange from Wei Jie on the right, Amir turned past his marker and set it up for Khai to curl it sweetly past the keeper from the edge of the box. A definite contender for goal of the season, as it sent the travelling Mavericks fans in the rafters into wild celebrations. 2-0.

Second half continued from where it started, with keeper Alex saving well countless of times. Jiun Wei entered the fray to tighten the gaps in midfield, with Faizy's dominance in midfield increasing as the battle raged on.

Then, with some brilliant improvisation, Faizy threaded in a sweet throughball that sent Amir one-on-one with the keeper. The no.14 made no mistake, as he tucked it in to make it 3-0.

It was, however, not to be an easy afternoon for the Outsiders as first thought, as fitness levels began to drop, and their opponents started looking dangerous with every attack. They pegged back, and made it 3-2, as Mavericks FC shot themselves in the foot.

It was a nervy last 10 minutes of the match, as things started looking bleak like it has been for the past 12 matches. The Outsiders did just enough to see it through, despite having star striker Khai stretchered off.

The Outsiders survived , with some brilliant time-wasting down the right-hand side of the pitch between Jiun Wei, Seng Yew and Amir, much to the chagrin of their angry opponents who were heard saying, "Dey, what is this da, you all playing champions league issit? Must play like that?" Haha. Final Score: 3-2. Win!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a post match interview on the phone, Captain Chao Xing, who was busy having endorsement deals overseas, was jubilant and ecstatic after learning about the club's long awaited victory. He was quoted as saying, "
yes lar. a good end of a beaten streak to celebrate the belated 3rd anniversary!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Lastly, a Happy 3rd Year Anniversary Team Mavericks!
Wish you many more great years ahead (and signings. haha.) and may we all be the next Team Uncles when we become uncles ourselves. We are half-way there! Cheers!

Soccer: The Beautiful and Sexy Game

The Game.

"Something men were made to do, something that is intensely physical yet
profoundly imaginative, something made out of muscle, speed, grace and the soul
and finally something that possesses intensely sexual, intellectual allure."

~David Thomson

There are many beautiful things about being a fan of soccer—first and foremost among them is ignorance. The community in which you were raised did not gather around the television set for a good enough reason. The club you were supporting most probably did not represent the community you live in. There was an absence of a sense of die-hard belonging in the local grounds.

You can pick whatever team you like best and root for it without shame or fear of reprisal. You have not been indoctrinated into unwanted-yet-inescapable tribal allegiances by your soccer-crazed countrymen. You are an amateur, in the purest sense of the word.

That's what I do. The world of the soccer is the one I want to live in. I cannot resist its paranormal appeal - the revelation of deep human flaws and unexpected greatness, the fact that entire school cohorts neglect the impending horrors of examination and wake up at 3 a.m., just to watch 22 grown men kick a ball.

Soccer's worldwide popularity isn't surprising when you look at what has always motivated humanity: money and religion.

There's lots of money in soccer. Club soccer (like capitalism) is basically the childlike desire to make dreams come true, no matter what the cost, realized by men with enough money to combine such commodities as the best Brazilian attacker, Portugese midfielder (sometimes the South Korean ones), Italian defender, and German goalie and turn them loose on whatever the other billionaires can put together—an unfair situation that describes much of the world these days. And what makes such combination work, when communication may be a potential problem among the various nationalities? Fortunately, in soccer, there's only one language. "Gooooooooal!" And not surprisingly, it is the same language that also unites all fans here, aunties, uncles and some kids at the coffeeshop, the angmohs and asians at Hooters, gamblers and non-gamblers alike.

So what is soccer if not everything that religion should be? Universal yet particular, the source of an infinitely renewable supply of hope, occasionally miraculous, and governed by simple and straightforward rules that everyone can follow. Soccer's laws are laws of equality and nonviolence and restraint, and free to be reinterpreted at the discretion of a reasonable arbiter. Whatever the referee says goes, no matter how flagrantly in violation of dogma his decisions may be. Quoting from Soccer and its Ideology, after presenting a detailed enumeration of soccer's 17 laws, it concludes that the referee can throw out any of them in order to apply what it rather mystically calls "the spirit of fair play."

Of course, it's well-known that soccer, like religion, can provoke violence—hooliganism and trampling at overcrowded, rowdy and chanting stadiums. On a personal basis, we have already witnessed firsthand a couple of unprovoked attacks ourselves. But still, soccer has also proved unique in its ability to bridge differences and overturn national prejudices. World Cup 2002, was a one victory for tolerance and understanding, considering the fact that half a century ago South Korea did not even allow the Japanese national team to cross its borders for a World Cup qualifier, less said about co-hosting the tournament with its former occupier. Give the world 50 more years and we might see the Cup co-hosted by Israel and Palestine, or even possibly India and Pakistan after another century.

So why is that possible? Soccer's universality is its simplicity—the fact that the game can be played anywhere with anything and easily understood. Our predecessors used to kick the can on concrete and the talented South American kids still kick a rag wrapped around a rag wrapped around a rag, barefoot, or if they can find, a coconut, on dirt. Soccer is something to believe in now, perhaps empty at its core, but not a stand-in for anything else.

The beautiful game—let's call it business and religion combined—will be at its most unfair, frustrating (or exciting), and magnificent at our upcoming games. The odds will be crazy at the Singapore Pools. And what makes the going so beautiful is Team Mavericks, all of us together. Our erratic form (which made bookies and pundits lose money all the time), our splendid misses, our domineering presence, the dramatic saves, I say this moment is just like a roller coaster ride. Dangerous yets exciting, some highs and lows, spin-arounds, blurry after-feeling, but definitely a ride I want to go for again.

And like the allure of nicotine, you can't replace the experience of playing for the Outsiders with anything else. Playing with Team Mavericks is like an addiction a true-blue Outsider can't kick. The joy of being one of the many who will abide by the 17 rules fills me with the conviction, perhaps ignorant, but like many ignorant convictions, fiercely held, that soccer can unite us all, was the very reason for choosing in varietate concordia as our central belief.

And the belief was unshaken even until today. And I thank everyone for sharing this same belief as me. Happy 3rd birthday Team Mavericks!

Katong Boys Musical Ensemble

The musical stylings of the Katong Boys, something to tide you over another week where no football was played.

A tribute to the China Men who beat Mavericks FC fair and square 2-1.
Almost total possession. Horrifying finishing.
That's the moral of the story for us today.
We had them in the bag, but we didn't take our chances.

And henceforth, the losing rut continues.
It's 12 games now.
Do not fret, do not worry. It's okay. It's alrite, my dearies.
Next week, we start at zero. We will start on a clean slate.

This brings forth the start of our SEASON.
Pre-season's over.
Haha.
It's okay to have a 12-game losing streak in pre-season! Really!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You never lose by loving. You always lose by holding back.”
“How you think when you lose determines how long it will be until you win.”
“Life is truly known only to those who suffer, lose, endure adversity and stumble from defeat to defeat like Mavericks FC.”
Oh so inspiring quotes there.
So let us all make up and make love to each other my dahlings!
Let us all be gay. Coz, when you're gay, you're happie. Yay-ness! yippie!
Breaking News!
realks
In shocking revelations in spanish newspapers today, Real Madrid once again have broken their bank to land in another world-class player into their ranks just hours after signing French forward Karim Benzema from Lyon. Mavericks midfielder Kee Siang will join the likes of Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo in the Second Galactico Era helmed by re-elected Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
The deal was concluded away from the public eye, which explains why the deal was not even heard till today as playmaker Kee Siang was revealed as a Real Madrid player at a press conference at the Santiago Bernabeu reception centre.
Sources have stated that the Mavericks fans are enraged with this recent turn of events, and a barrage of abuse and protest will be expected at the Stade de Sembawang this whole week.
There has been minor altercations during the course of the deal, as the new signing had specifically requested to wear the number 7 jersey, currently worn by Real Madrid captain Raul Gonzalez. He was unmovable in his stance, in that, if he did not get the number 7, he would not sign the paperwork and play for the Los Merengues.
Florentino Perez had earlier stated that he had already reserved the number 5 jersey for him, previously worn by legend Zinedine Zidane. This did not come down good for the ex-Mavericks player, and thus Raul was given the free transfer immediately to accomodate the new signing's demands.
Sources have revealed that the transfer of Kee Siang cost Real Madrid a whopping £77m, making him the second most expensive player in the world, behind crybaby Cristiano Ronaldo.
More updates to come...
Latest news -
Amid the declaration of Megan Fox that she is a guy, the best right-back in the world Chris has stepped forth and openly declared that he is in fact a GIRL! She/he told reporters that she/he has been taking testosterone pills to bulk up like a man. That explains his rippling muscles.
This shocking news may not go down well with most of the female fans of Mavericks. Chris, whose real name is actually Christabel, may also be stripped off his Mr. Singapore 2008 title.
Club captain, Chao Xing, who has been absent for the past few matches due to being occupied with coming up with a new cheer for Mavericks, is furious at the alleged reports. He has demanded to see whether Chris really has a pussy or not before kick-off the next match.
