More than 30,000 fans turned up at the Loftus Versfeld Northview Stadium to watch the game, but were let down by a below-par MPSFC, who ended their tour to Yishun on a low - they lost two and won one match in the Singapore Football Galaticos Challenge tournament.
In the end it was Amir's effort minutes before full-time that proved the difference between the two sides.
After a quiet start, Kee Siang started showing his silky world-class-ness dragging past 4 player after the opening 14 minutes, only to see his resulting shot saved by the keeper.
Wei Long then had a great chance to give his side the lead, only to be given the offside after being put through by Randy brilliantly.
But Play Soccer FC youngster Faiz Bin Yusof, a product of the club's academy, was not so fortunate and was forced off the field after 20 minutes after his foot got stuck in the turf after a great shot on target with which Mavericks goalkeeper Captain Chao Xing dealt with comfortably.
Jerome had the first real chance for his side after another good cross from the left touchline by the lively Chung Wei, but his 18-yard shot just short of the half-hour mark was straight at the Chiefs goalkeeper.
The visitors then made a change shortly after the break replacing Jiun Wei with Chris as the Mavericks businessman swapped positions with the cultured right-back.
This proved a superb tactical move as having Chris at centre-back felt like a new signing altogether for the Outsiders as he formed a formidable partnership with Chuan Ji in the centre of defence.
In front of goal, all the signs continued to look encouraging with Faizee, Clement and Wei Jie linking up nicely, until the final ball, which let Chao Xing' side down.
But it was the visiting goalkeeper Matty McMat that was forced to make the first real save, which was in the 41st minute when Randy's shot caused the Malaysian international to dive low to his left and tip the ball wide.
And then, Amir almost helped his side snatch a great goal when his perfectly weighted through-ball sent Kee Siang clear, who dragged his shot just wide off the post with the keeper beaten.
Oreo then beat the offside trap only to see the ball fall from his grasp due to the bumpy pitch at the last moment when put through one-on-one with the keeper.
It was to prove inconsequential however, as Mavericks held on to be crowned the Singapore Football Galaticos.
A legendary performance between the sticks by Captain Chao Xing in goal has left the media loss for words as well as a heroic world-class performance from ex-rightback Chris in the centre of defence ensured that victory was always within reach for the Outsiders. Faizee turned in another superb performance, adding a tenacity that was clearly missing in the Mavericks' previous match. FT: 1-0
