Mavericks Comeback Victory!

Kampung FC 3 - 4 Mavericks FC

Scorers:
Chuan Ji ('32 pen), Amir ('38), Kee Siang ('42), Jerome ('67)
Assists: Darran, Kee Siang, Clarence, Chris
MOM: =)

Stadio Bedok Greenie -
Mavericks FC overcame an early onslaught to claim victory on a rain-soaked artificial turf on Saturday. The Outsiders were cajoled to a stuttering start, with their opponents from Kampung FC breaching their defence, not once, not twice, but three times in the opening 20 minutes.

This led to manager Chin Yuen lambasting his team on the touchlines, and forcing him to make tactical changes, which bore fruit as the game wore on. The travelling Mavericks fans in the stands were in for a treat, despite such a major early setback.

Mavericks seemed a different team all of a sudden, and Darran got the ball rolling. After a swift counter attack, the Muscular Man from Lazio, who plied his trade in his early years in the sky blue of the Biancocelesti, bashed through into the box, only to be sandwiched by two Kampung defenders. The referee pointed to the spot, and veteran centreback Chuanji blasted it into the roof of the net. 1-3.

The Outsiders were playing with confidence, and soon after, they got their second goal. Mavericks midfield maverick, Kee Siang, weaved past two defenders, before squaring it to Amir. The flamboyant forward breezed past one, before letting rip a left-footed low drive into the bottom corner of the net to reduce the deficit. 2-3.

And before long, the Outsiders got their equaliser, this time, with Wei Jie and Clarence combining well, before Kee Siang found himself through with some time inside the box. The Mavericks number 7 made no mistake, with a superbly taken right-footed finish which send the fans in the rafters wild. 3-3.

Second half was a drab affair, as both teams went for the killer goal. It was however, going to be Jerome's day, as after a seemingly harmless squared ball to him from Chris on the right, the winger got past his marker and aimed for a cross-shot into the box which dipped into the net from such a tight angle and past the keeper!

Final Score: Mavericks FC 4 Kampung FC 3.

¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬

Sky Sports hot reporter Georgie Thompson was in the Mavericks dressing room after the match:

Georgie: Surely that penalty was the turning point of the game for your team. The big question is, did you dive?

Darran: I don't dive. I exaggerate the foul.

Georgie: Erm okay. So, Jerome, that was a nice winning goal you scored. Everyone's asking, did you plan to go for goal, or was that a lucky fluke goal?

Jerome: I've been doing that in training alot, so I truly believe that wasn't a fluke goal. I planned it.

Georgie: We'd like to truly believe that too. Heehee. .......Oww!

(Christiano smacks her butt as he passed by her)

Christiano: HOHOHOHOHOHO!!! (hyena laugh)

Footballopod Updates

It's not a big thing. But our previous opponents (Kampung FC) has taken the effort to rate Mavericks. Want to find out more? Check out the url. (Darran first saw this) And btw, nothing has been done to the webby, because no one volunteered to help out yet. So it looks crappy when the opponents come in to look at it.

Mounting Injury Woes

The Mavericks faithful were definitely cursing their luck as Barry and Chuan Ji had just been confirmed in the increasing list of injuries which also includes Jake, Shi Jie, Randy and Khai.

Striker Wei Long is not match fit following a long spell resting on the sidelines. Kee Siang who has already flown to Malaysia for international duty is set to miss the coming match, and is still an uncertainty for next week, pending fitness check. Amir has yet to return from national duty and is a confirmed exclusion from the weekend squad.

Though one good news comes as a consolation. The loan deal involving Darran to Adelaide FC has collapsed, with sources close to the young winger stating that he had rejected the move due to "personal reasons." What it is, it sure is a relief for Darran's fans.

More updates will be available again. Stay tuned.

More About Team Website On Footballopod

Hasn't gotten any updates from our side about any progress on website. (This is a request from D2Dsports for us to have our webby up, not a value-added service) Of course there are prizes to be won for the most creative webby (in terms of design or match reports)

Have previously sent out email to a few of the guys but not too sure if they are interested as there were no replies. So now I'm opening the invite to everyone.

Anyway, here's a sample webby.

http://www.footballopod.com/ViewTeam.aspx?id=1&mode=v

What's cool:

1. Additional channel to create awareness of Mavericks among the amateur football community (Helps Clement's job also -> more self-arranged matches -> save $$)

2. Fixtures/Results at a glance

3. Mavericks' Own Newsletter (Move over, blogspot.)

4. Hear about how other teams rate ours

What's not cool:

1. Additional workload in maintenance (already there are not enough volunteers to maintain team blog.)

2. Not enough pictures to upload (we don't really take pictures on a frequent basis)

3. No proper logo (logo was scanned, so the resolution wasn't good enough)

Players for League Squad

I have divided the players into 2 groups, based on commitment levels. Understand that some have activities on certain weekends so we will not call you up every weekend. The matchday squad will be made up of a ratio of both groups, depending on the situation and requirements of the match. Jake will work with me on this to ensure he gets the best squad to choose from. (Please note that the chairman decided to limit the squad size to 16 each week to ensure enough playing time for players.)

For the Hwaiting group, the players listed here are expected to turn up on a regular basis (75%). And being the core of the team, they will have the priviledge of being called up first. Players from this group will, without doubt, make up the majority of the matchday squad.

For the Waiting group, the commitment levels expected is lower and the players may not be called up every week. This includes players who could only come about 2 or less times a month. As long as the player indicate that they can play regularly, we will include them in the regular call-up group.
Guest players/trialists all start out from this group.

Extra note: We could be travelling around places in Singapore. Don't be picky about the venue. (Last season, the matches were held at central, north, northeast and east regions)

For those in the tentative group, please indicate your grouping preference. Thanks.

Hwaiting ("Fighting") Squad (At least commit 3 matches in one month)

1. Alex (GK)
2. Chris (D)
3. Clement (D)
4. Chuan Ji (D)
5. Chao Xing (D)
6. Seng Yew (D)
7. Jiun Wei (M)
8. Wei Jie (M)
9. Faizee (M)
10. Darran (M)
11. Barry (M)
12. Leon (M)
13. ?? (M or ST)
14. ?? (ST)
15. Amir (ST)
16. ?? (ST)

Waiting

1. Chris friend 1 (D) - unconfirmed commitment levels
2. Chris friend 2 (ST) - unconfirmed commitment levels
3. Khai (ST) - inj
4. Shi Jie (D) - inj
5. Jake (M) - inj

6. Kee Siang (M) - leaving in Jan
7. Jerome (ST) - gonna miss one to two matches a month
8. Chung (M) - unconfirmed commitment levels

Tentative (Ungrouped)

And our friends from Team Poom are always welcome to guest play for us. We hope to continue a long-term cooperation with players going both ways to help out during Sat or Sun matches.
