Headlines: Mavericks victorious once again!
FT Score: Sin Ming Spiders 0 Mavericks 2
Scorers: Amir ('23), Khai ('38)
Assist: Clarence, Kee Siang
Toa Payoh - Mavericks FC continues their perfect start in their all new vintage kit with yet another convincing win, to climb up the league table. Sin Ming Spiders were no easy opponents, but the Mavericks solid backline, coupled by magnificent displays in the heart of midfield by the triumvirate of Kee Siang, Clarence and Barry, proved too much for their opponents to handle. Despite missing reliable centre-back Mike, Mavericks had Seng Yew to thank, with a flawless performance alongside Chuan Ji in central defence.
After having the majority of the possession in the first half, the Outsiders finally broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute. Clarence cleared things up in midfield, before squaring it to Amir on the left. The winger went on a brilliant mazy run, skinning past 3 players, before letting rip a sweet left-footed drive past the keeper. 1-0.
Clarence was a force in the Mavericks midfield, dictating play alongside the silky worldclassness that we've all come to love, the no. 7, Kee Siang. Khai was shockingly, awesomely, tackled from behind, and it looked like a clear penalty but the referee waved play on. However, he didn't have to wait long, as after several stepovers and a cross from the untouchable Kee Siang, sent the striker through on goal, and he gleefully sidestepped past the keeper and sidefooted it into the open net in the 38th minute. 2-0.
Second half was a great defensive display from the men in white, as the team battled on and hanged on to their lead. Super duper alot of fouls were committed by Chin Yuen, but the opponents didn't make great use of their opportunities, as they sent one shot after another off target. Alex, however, was called into action, with a superb save, this time from a thunderbolt from another free-kick in the 75th minute. The team held on and came away with a convincing, if not, satisfying 2-o victory.
The Mavericks Owner was clearly delighted with Wei Long's performance as manager for the day, after she rang him right after the match, and offered him a lucrative contract offer, to which the fox-in-the-box striker politely rejected and said, "Never play, never pay. So i ok." Haha. The Mavericks Board is clearly delighted with this victory, and may this run continue.
