Match??

Guys... Due to imminent exams and stuff, many will not be able to make it for this Sat's game.

There have been calls to take a week's break but some have suggested that we should keep up the momentum and continue instead.

What do you guys think?

Currently, the only available match is at Fernvale and it costs $90/team. If you're fine with it pls state your attendance first.

The match will be arranged when there is at least 11 players ok? So confirm asap..

(and what happened to the match report for the previous game? haha! we gotta give our 2-goal hero some credit man!)

Training Match Review

Date: 20th September 2008
Venue: Stade de Sembawang
Training Opponents: Jasper's Super Reds
Kickoff: 3pm

Starting line-up: Alex, Clement, Chuan Ji, Chris, Chao Xing, Matthew, Wei Jie, Barry, Darran, Randy, Fuad

Substitutes: Jiun Wei, Chung Wei, Jerome, Faizal, Amir

Mavericks FC would like to apologise and clarify earlier reports of thumping their opponents in fashion. With the disappearance of the match referee (very poor professionalism as quoted by fans of the Outsiders), the proposed friendly had to be abandoned. Instead, a training match was played with both sides sitting on the same side for the first time in Mavericks history.

The game was played in good spirits although some injuries were reported to several Mavericks players like Barry (gashed head), Seng Yew (hamstring) and Matthew (ankle). All in all, there was a vast improvement in the Outsiders' performance from last week's humbling by Bishan 11.

Summary of training match:

Goals: Randy ('9), Fuad ('33), ('90), Wei Jie ('52), Amir ('75), ('80)
Assists: Matthew, Jerome (Who else assisted, please own up, haha)
MOM: Fuad

Areas to improve: Headers, offside traps
Areas commendable: Passing, set pieces

Mavericks FC would like to thank JSRFC for the opportunity to let the two teams train together for the first time.

Guys, this sat's match will be back at our home ground! Finally....

And pls take note of the kit colour. I think white will be a better choice as the weather can get pretty hot.

And also the $50 match should place less stress on our funds, which had been used extensively for the past two matches held on artificial pitches.

Confirm attendance and get ready to kick off on natural grass again!

And lastly, don't be late, seriously. You know who you are. Haha!

Mavericks Thumped

Date: 13th September 2008
Venue: Bowen Sec
Opponents: Bishan Eleven
Kick off: 3pm

Starting line-up: Alex, Chao Xing, Chris, Randy, Darran, Amir, Seng Yew, Oreo, Chung Wei, Jerome, Wei Long,

Substitutes: Clement, Perry, Fuad

FT Score: 1-5 (HT Score: 1-3)
Goals: Amir ('39)
Assist: Wei Long
MOM: Alex

Mavericks FC were beaten comprehensively by a highly-inspired Bishan Eleven FC on Saturday in a match they never looked like taking control of. The Outsiders sorely missed the services of star defenders Jiun Wei and Chuan Ji as well as the hard-running of Barry and Chin Yuen.

The team had plenty of chances to come back into the game, but luck was just not on their side as they conceded 2 goals to set-pieces, one of which was scored amidst confusion just outside of the penalty box, as they failed to halt a free-kick which was taken without the referee's whistle.

Winger Amir pulled one back, but it was a case of too little too late as the damage has already been done, and the team could not take the many chances, most of them from counter-attacks, which they had in the game. Wei Long had a shot which smacked the bar while Perry, Chung Wei and Jerome had chances saved as well. Keeper Alex was again their saviour, making countless of saves, but it just wasn't their day for the Outsiders.

Mavericks Wins Again

Date: 6th September 2008
Venue: Orchid Park Sec
Opponents: Team Nick
Kick off: 3pm

Starting line-up: Alex, Chao Xing, Clement, Seng Yew, Darran, Barry, Perry, Matthew, Jerome, Wei Long, Randy

Substitutes: Chin Yuen, Chris, Chung Wei, Amir, Chuan Ji

FT Score: 3-2 (HT Score: 2-2)
Goals: Randy ('13), Perry ('24), Amir ('72)
Assists: Wei Long, Chung Wei
MOM: Randy

At 2.45pm, Mavericks FC arrived at the Orchid Park Sec, alarmed to witness so many tall black knights with white shiny armours passing and shooting the balls among the bed of orchid flowers, oozing with this unbeatable and invincible aura.

At 3.10pm, the team manager for the day, Mr Tay Chin Yuen, counted only 9 players including himself ready to play. The rest were LATE! As he was trying to sort out the formation for the day with limited resources, 4 star players arrived - Jerome the pacy winger, Clement the forever reliable left-back, Seng Yew the creative force and Amir the goal machine. Thanks goodness! He immediately ran towards the referee to request for extra 5 minutes to allow the players to get dressed.

Mavericks started the match with the effective central midfield partnership from the last victory - Barry and Perry and also experimented with a a new strike force consisting of Randy and Wei Long. On the left wing, we have Jerome with Clement supporting him from the back. On the other side, we have Matthew (new signing) with the goal scorer of the last match, Darran supplying him with firepower from the back. In the heart of the defence, Chao Xing and Seng Yew formed the new defensive fortress (the third different combination in third match?) while the old Rearguards Chuan Ji and Jun Wei were away.

The new strike force immediately reaped results in the 13th minute, with Wei Long receiving the ball from the midfield, let through a ball into Randy's path. Randy made no mistake in slotting a low ball into the left hand corner of the goalpost with the opponent's keeper stranded. GOAL! POWER! STEADY! 1-0 to Mavericks.

The black knights were slow in the park of the midfield due to their bulky armours around their waists, allowing the quick mobile central midfielders to win the balls on the ground as well as the in the air. In the AIR? Barry and Perry were at least one head shorter than the black knights. Shame on the them! Haha. Pity that they did not join the recent Beijing 2008 high jump event, sure break Junior world records.

With the amount of possession won in the midfield, it was not surprising that the second goal will arrive soon. True enough, in the 23th, the hardworking Perry won the ball from the central defender, outpaced him with a simple cut to the left and calmly slot the ball pass the on rushing keeper into the left bottom corner of the goal mouth. 2-0 to Mavericks! First time in 10 matches getting a 2 goal lead!

However, that was not the end of the match, the black knights were shakened up by the 2 goals and started drawing out their swords and shields, gearing up for a fightback! In the 30th min, one long hair knight let fly a stinging shot just outside the penalty box at Alex (wonder who style his hair). Arrr, no problem for Alex as he dived to his right to pump the ball out to Darran. Darran immediately took the ball out of the penalty box and launched a counter attack. He dribbled past 3 opponents and passed the ball to Matthew who was awaiting along the line. He immediately supplied a cross into the central defence, but it was cleared by the central defender. The ball was trapped well by one of the opponents' central midfielders, he exchanged a few passes with his central partner and led the play into the edge of our penalty box. This time round, the long hair knight made no mistake in placing the shot in off the right post, with Alex and the defence watching in disbelief. 2-1 to Mavericks!

10 mins later, Mavericks conceded another goal despite Alex leaping into the goal to pluck the ball out. 2-2! Not good! Guess what, the referee told us at half time that he purposely let the goal stand because he believed we can win them eventually. Ha...now we know referee can made a difference. Half time!

At 2nd half, Mavericks introduced Chuan Ji in the centre of the defence with Seng yew. Matthew shifted down to right back to allowed Chris Ramos to operate on the right wing. On the left wing, Amir took his usual spot with Randy making runs down the left. In the middle of the park, Chin Yuen and Darran formed a new partnership with Chung Wei and Chao Xing upfront. In the 47th min, Chin Yuen picked out a pass from Darran and let go a kuku shot at the opponents' goal mouth with Chuan Ji kping at the back. Haha!

The Black knights introduced several changes too and it proved effective as they launched attack after attack. Chuan Ji keep shouting for offsides in an attempt to ease the defence's burden. Haha, but the referee was too good to be fooled. Mavericks sat deep and launched their own counter attacks through Chris Ramos and Amir. Darran let go a shot near the attacking third after receiving the ball from Chung Wei and it narrowly missed the top right hand corner of the goal mouth. This time round Chuan Ji cheered!

Amir and Chris Ramos kept making telling runs down the flanks, producing countless of stepovers from Amir and loads of hyena laughters from Chris as they eased past defenders. In the 72nd min, Amir received the ball from Chung wei again, cut in to the right and let fly a looping shot past the out of position keeper. 3-2! HE SCORED the winning goal again! Can someone take over his job? Is getting boring! The fans wished to see Chuan Ji scored with his juggling acts and Seng Yew from his dead balls! Come on! put them strikers next match!

Other highlights, Chao Xing had a shot cleared off the line by their short pacy left back who was the only chinese apart from the another chinese midfielder. Wei Long, Darran and Perry all had leg cramps at certain points of the match! WArm up and please do refrain from playing street soccer in the morning! Haha! Okay, tt's all for the day! Oh ya! One more thing - Chris Ramos is another Kuku, waited at the wrong venue to be picked up by clement and ended up paying 10 dollars for taxi!

Mavericks FC maintained the winning streak for the second time in a row! Good game! Keep it up!

Latest News & Tabloid Tales

Here, we bring u another edition of The Outsiders Times, YOUR only source of news for Mavericks FC and everything else associated with the club.

  • Mavericks FC has sealed the signing of defensive midfielder Chin Yuen for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be around the 20 million euros region. The cultured midfielder has been on-loan for the Outsiders this season, and the Mavericks Board have decided to make him a permanent signing after several eye-catching performances, providing cover for the Mavericks rearguard countless of times. Chin Yuen is contracted to the club in a lucrative deal, signed just before the closure of the current transfer window, almost about the same time irritating Tottenham Hotspurs signed another player once again, in the form of Russian forward Roman Pavlyuchenko from Spartak Moscow.

  • Mavericks FC have bolstered their midfield with two more further signings just before the end of the current transfer window. The Mavericks Board has worked overtime and their efforts have paid off as they have secured the signings of speedy winger Darran and energetic attacking midfielder Barry within minutes of the closure of the window. The signing of the two midfielders will no doubt add depth to the squad, and would soften the blow of losing star playmaker Kee Siang, whom the Mavericks are resigned to lose after the player signalled his intentions to join NTU FC after a tumultous transfer saga which stretched through out the pre-season. Both Darran and Barry had explosive debuts, and the Mavericks faithful can't wait to see them playing in the Outsiders' colours at home this month.

  • World-class centre-forward Zhi Fei has been attached on as an ambassador for Mavericks FC in the foreign market, as the Mavericks Board look to expand their fan-base outside of the country, this time, in Taiwan. The star player will be having a 6 month loan-stint at local club, Shihlin Chicken FC and the player's services will be sorely missed. The Board, however, has warned the forward, to behave himself in Taiwan, as they would not want a repeat of what happened to anchorman Mike in China after he was caught in several suggestive poses in the tabloids by the papparazzis. Well, Taiwanese girls can be irresistable sometimes.....

  • Full-back Randy, who has just returned to the club after a half-year exile, is raring to go at it once again in the Mavericks colours after he made a rather unorthodox return in the previous match, playing as a striker. He has made it known to everyone in the dressing room, as well as the Mavericks management that he will be the player to fill in Zhi Fei's golden boots during his absence and promises goals by the buckets. This explains the lack of transfer activity in the striker department by the Mavericks Board.

  • The travelling away fans were not disappointed after their beloved Mavericks battled their way to a convincing 2-1 win at the Tamp-ford Bridge Stadium in the previous match. However, the majority of them noticed something indifferent about right-back Chris. One fan said, "His chest muscles looked rather downcast that day....wonder what happened?". The Mavericks Board has looked into the matter, and has assured on the club website that their fan favourite was just having a bad day that day. And yet still, he managed to put in a world-class performance!

  • Veteran left-back Clement and centre-midfielder Seng Yew has been fined 2 weeks wages. Their failure to reach on time for kick-off on matchday has left the Board with no choice but to discipline them. The Board has given a final warning, and failure to comply will result in the two pals writing the match reports for the next 7 matches. Haha.

  • An online poll on a fan-site has revealed that 70% chose Ref Charles as their favourite referee on match days. 29% chose Ref Charles II, who was the match official in the clash between the Outsiders and Team Clarence. Believe or not, 1% chose Ref Devan. Must be the uncle who punched Mavericks winger Amir in the face in the July clash between Team Uncles and the Outsiders.

  • Speaking of Mr. Devan, Mavericks striker Wei Long is glad to return to action after he finally finished serving his 3 match suspension after being sent off in that climactic clash between Mavericks FC and Team Uncles, which ended in violent fashion. The Mavericks no.23 was given a straight red card, after the referee thought he had scolded him. Such horrid refereeing!!!

  • The FA has decided to fine the Mavericks Board for their failure to monitor their tabloid newpaper, The Outsiders Times, regarding the comments made against Devan above.

That's all for this edition of The Outsiders Times.
Comments very much welcomed.
