Latest News & Tabloid Tales

Here, we bring u another edition of The Outsiders Times, YOUR only source of news for Mavericks FC and everything else associated with the club.

In the news....

  • The clash between Mavericks FC and (insert) FC has been postponed due to inclement weather conditions by the SSC. Apparently, reports state that there were puddles of water on the pitch, and therefore the pitch was deemed to be unplayable. The new date for the match has yet to be decided but the FA has undergone discussions at a last-minute press conference held at the Stade de Sembawang reception room and has tentatively re-scheduled the match to the following Saturday, the 28th of June. To be confirmed again.

  • Several sources cited that Referee Charles was apparently downcast at being the last person to know regarding the match's postponement. Match officials as well as the Mavericks board would like to apologise to the referee for the lapse in information. As a compensation, legendary Mavericks left-back Clement has left the country for the Lagos International Airport in Nigeria to pick-up some chicks and bring back some Jollof Rice and Chinchin for their favourite referee.

  • Mavericks' explosive midfielder Chung Wei has won the Player of the Month award as well as the Goal of the Month award after putting in fine performances for all the 4 matches played this month. He garnered 2 assists and a goal; a superb thunderbolt which blasted into the roof of the net against Balooku FC, which also became the most viewed video on Youtube with a quarter of a million world-wide users who could not get enough of seeing the replays. Surely a contender for goal of the season.

  • Fleet footed forwards Boon Kee and Fuad have announced their retirements from international duty and has decided to focus on their club football instead, following the footsteps of Paul Scholes, who retired from the England national team when he clearly had lots more to offer. Both forwards have stipulated the first and second weeks of June as their Official Retirement Date from their respective national teams.

  • A recent fan poll held at an unofficial club website has revealed that the left-back position is the most competitive one at the club whereby several players have tried to oust Clement out from that position but failed. Players who have plied their trade in that most sought-after position include captain Chao Xing, reliable full back Randy, defence stalwart Jiun Wei, and most recently, right-back Chris who says that playing there "trains his left foot". However, reliable sources have cited that Seng Yew has been telling everyone that he is a "classy left-back". Looks like Clement's not going to be too happy when he comes back from Nigeria.

  • There has been rumours circling in the tabloids regarding classy playmaker Boon Leng's limited appearances for the club in recent months. Apparently, sources have cited that the midfielder has handed in a transfer request, and looks set to be joining X-S FC, a club he has supported since he was a boy. However, the Mavericks board are trying their best to tie down a new contract as soon as possible in a bid to keep the player for at least another season.

  • Anchorman Mike is another Mavericks player who has been missing in action and has yet to start a match in the new season. Apparently, the hordes of his fan-girls have been writing in to the Mavericks management and demanding that their idol is given a good run of games. However, on a recent issue of iWeekly magazine, paparazzis have snapped photos of the star player out partying in a club in China with some oriental chicks. The player could not be reached to comment on the article, but his agent has confirmed that the player was indeed in China, strictly for business purposes and nothing else.

  • In response to the match-fixing scandal in the match against Balooku FC in which winger Amir was allegedly involved, the Mavericks board has decided to fine the player for 2 week's wages starting the first week of June. There was insufficient evidence to point out any deals involved, and therefore the player is given a lenient sentence. After the decision was made, he was quoted as saying, "I don't care. Just give me this week's iWeekly issue. You know who's on the cover rite?" Clearly, words from a relieved man.

  • Midfield maestro Kee Siang could miss next week's match due to an ankle injury sustained in training. The midfielder has been an integral part of the Mavericks midfield and some of the Stade de Sembawang faithful has even written letters to show their support for their beloved player. However, one such letter from an aptly named, "NgoRocks" was the most touching:
"All the best in your recovery! I love the way you play! I love how the ball sticks to you as if it was your third testicle! I love you! You Rock!".

Heart-felt words, indeed.

That's all for this edition of The Outsiders Times.
Comments very much welcomed.

Defining The Outsider

The term Mavericks is defined as semi-wild, unbranded individuals not belonging to any clique.
