Match Postponed

Match has been postponed for 25 June due to poor response. Facebook events said it will send an email to all invited.

We are still experimenting with the facebook events thingy, (I did consider this but playmaker is better because we still need to update goalscorers and not everyone has facebook account)

I need Weilian, Guo Xiang, Jiun Wei and Wei Jie to be in the Facebook group before we migrate to facebook events notification system. For last minute changes in schedule, I also need everyone to know to adjust their RSVP mode too instead of just putting a comment on facebook so we know at a glance who to expect for the match.

Some players neglected to inform me in advance of any upcoming overseas trips/commitments. Attendance this month is especially unpredictable, so if you don't want to sabo the remaining teammates to struggle with a depleted squad because we have no time to ask to postpone any matches. I will need at least a one week notice. It is best to give me your commitment list on a monthly basis if possible.

Also, time to reach venue will be set at 2.45 pm as field wardens will open the gates at that timing (a strange practice if you ask me, since the match was scheduled at 3pm)

Please feel free to speak with me for any concerns, especially for our new signings. But I will be out of town by midweek till a week later. Thanks.

Mavericks draw in hard-fought match!

Final Score: Northern Galaxy FC 2 Mavericks FC 2

Scorers: Midzi ('37), Vic ('80)
Assist: Chris, Darran
MOMs: Chris & Alex

Secondaria di Primo Grado Serangoon - A severely depleted Mavericks FC side came back from behind twice to eke out a sensational draw against Northern Galaxy FC on a rather cool Saturday 3pm kickoff after 2 weeks of postponed matches due to inclement whether.

Speaking of Clement, he went to Brisbane and will be bringing back marinated halal Koala meat and roasted kangaroo butt for the whole team for the pre-match lunch for the team's next league fixture.

The Outsiders were in for a tough afternoon, as they sorely missed their star players Kee Siang and Khai. Midfield maestro Kee Siang is currently on holiday and is busy gallivanting with Taiwanese chicks in Kaosiung, Taiwan eating Shilin XXL Chicken snacks and also snacking on them too. The chicks, i mean. Hehe.

And Khaidiniesta was out injured with a knee injury after spending 3 days mastering SNSD's Mr Taxi sexy "steering wheel" dance". Click here to see the hot dance!

The Outsiders were also missing star striker Desmond and tenacious midfielder Harish. Faizy is also currently in Germany eating German sausages.

It did not go all too well, as the Outsiders went a goal down after enterprising play from their speedy opponents. However, with the returning Midzi, the lanky hitman, as well as loan signings anchorman Hafiz Rafael and striker Mr. K, Mavericks FC had more than enough in their ranks to match their opponents.

Christiano was playing out of position, as a tribute to his ex-bf Clement, and played left-back instead of his usual position at right-back. A brilliant overlapping foray into the opponent half ended with him squaring a great ball to Midzi, who made no mistake with a fine finish from close range. 1-1.

Mavericks held on till half-time, with both teams tied in terms of possession shared. The second half kicked off fast and furious like Fast Five. Got watch the movie? Damn nice. Got The Rock.

Anyways, a defensive mix-up led to Northern Galaxy FC taking the lead again in front of their home crowd which consisted of 2 mat uncles, plus an Ah Gong selling H-two-O drinks at 1 dollar each and also a cat. 2-1.

Seng Yew says it's not the defence's fault as he says it's the midfield's fault instead. Hehe. And Chris was angry throughout the match, as was Jiun Wei who scolded everyone "NABEI clear ball properly lah! NABEI!"

Ah, good to see blood and passion from the team. This will put us in good stead for the rest of the season as we look to get promoted after getting relegated just a season after winning the title. Thanks Chin Yuen! You know we don't blame you!

And as passion seeped through the veins of the team, Mavericks FC fought back and equalised with a beautifully worked goal. Great interplay between Hafiz Rafael and Wei Jie before the ball fell to Amir. He cut past a defender before releasing a good through-ball to Vic who played a nice one-two with Darran before the ball fell back to Vic's right foot as he finished it with aplomb with a low drive! That's the spirit, Outsiders! 2-2.

Mavericks FC could have even gotten an undeserved winning goal with a great chance which fell to Amir. Man-of-the-match Christiano put Amir through on the left, before the veteran winger turned past his marker with a Zidane-turn! But then, his shot from outside the box was like Shola Ameobi! And this prolongs his goal drought to a godforsaken 11 months now. Aigo.

Final Score 2-2.

Final thoughts: This was a good result guys. We were clearly missing several key players, but we didn't stop working, and we deserved to come out of this match with a valuable point. Credit must be given to our last minute loan signings, as this result would not be achieved without them. And we are still unbeaten which is a good start to this new season. 3 Matches played, 2 Wins, 1 Draw. This is Championship-winning form i must say! Hwahwahwaha. Okbye.

Fixtures and Attendance for 10/11

Dear Team,

Don't know if Clement and myself are the only ones who know the password to the fixtures. My apologies for the lack of initiative lately as I had problems coping with personal commitments like FYP, interviews and exams..etc.

But since nothing is up yet (where's Clement's top assistant, Chris?? haha..), I wish to inform that, skies willing, fixtures are ongoing for next 2 weeks. I also understand that some of the students have plans to go for graduation trips soon and some planning to clear leaves. Please inform myself or Clement (we NEED to know in advance) so that we can reschedule matches if we are able to predict poor attendance for a particular weekend.

Fixture-wise, for better accountability, so far these 2 have proved to be viable:

1) status quo as per previous seasons - PLAYMAKER, email notification (sms service still NOT available yet..zzzz)

2) continue to use facebook events (but I reccomend non-facebook users have to create dummy accounts, comments alone are not good enough because we moved away from this system for a good reason.)

  • Choice 1 is part of the service package we PAID for regardless of whether we use it anot. Other than having the league management generate fixtures for us, we can also update individual attendance and goal-scoring records and profiling. So far, I am the only person managing these data entry.

  • Choice 2 is more user-friendly according to most players. Based on track records, our teammates frequent facebook more often than checking their email, which are probably already bombarded with lotsa SPAM. For this choice, it is more likely to involve more players to create fixtures, interaction, etc.

  • Hybrid method is.. erm.., being more time consuming than each of the above choices, generally not reccomended unless neccessary. And also, how about those who don't use facebook and have a SPAM problem with email?

Whichever the choice, the decision must be made based on efficiency and convenience for both the player and the administration. The logic (as explained before to one of our squad members) for my insistence is to ensure a proper systematic communication method for the best efficiency without sacrificing too much of the convenience of the team as a whole. I have long regarded attendance at a glance (auto-generated) as a MUST-HAVE function so that it removes any issues leading to confusion, or time-wasting doing manual updating of attendance.. etc

It is often easier to criticise than to suggest. So I would like to take away the easy task and assign the harder one to the team. I like to hear (if any) a third or fourth solution to address the issue by the end of next week, otherwise Clement and myself will decide between these 2.
