With already 2 losses in 3 games, Mavericks faces an uphill task in retaining their title.

Star FC is currently having the same points as Mavericks and a win is vital for the Outsiders to get back in the title race.

It has been rumoured that manager Jake will be sacked by the board if Mavericks loses this match, while Amir is made favourites by the bookies to replace Jake, whose late night activities have seemingly affected his otherwise sound mind to come up with the right tactics.

Khai's Strike Inspires First Win of Season

Final Score: Mavericks 1 - 0 Schwartz Star FC

Scorer(s): Khai (30)
Assist: Xing

MOM: SAR

The Outsiders entered the pitch as dark horses after last week's horrifying loss. A seemingly revitalised defence, previously undermined by boozing, complacency and some sleepiness, deterred the opposition time and again, as keeper Alex was hardly troubled throughout the game.

A quick throw-in from Xing found Khai inside the box, as he outmuscled 2 defenders before sending a screamer past the keeper.

The lead could have been extended as Jerome, Khai, Seng Yew all had their chances at goal but had seemingly no luck. The match also saw young trialist Afif, whom at 17 years of age, became Mavericks' youngest ever player to be fielded. Is this a sign of the club's future direction?

The match saw 3 possible contenders for the MOM award. Khai was inspirational on and off the pitch. Chuan Ji, mistaken by the last week's opponents as Mavericks' makeshift defender whose real occupation was a ball-juggling performer, showed why he was still the first-choice centreback of Mavericks.

However, Clement narrowly outshone the two, making effective contributions in both defence and attack down the left flank. The ex-wonderkid was first talent-spotted while playing in a dust-filled hangar in the rural districts of Seletar 4 years ago and signed for a nominal fee. And it seems that he is likely to become the best bargain Mavericks had so far.

Btw, who says sexy black is a jinx colour?

Khai Rallies the Outsiders

Exclusive!

Following the abrupt end of Mavericks' unbeaten run, Khai has rallied the troops in the Mavericks camp at the end of the day and the following transcript was "accidentally" forwarded to the correspondence from the L'Equipe.

Below are the excerpts from the thread that had set the players talking, and their vows to stop the winless run at just one game.

Khairuldin Yahya:

Hello, all.

Just a reflection of today's game. First of all, I apologise if anyone is affected by my outburst on the pitch today. But I assure you, what happens on the pitch, remains on the pitch. We had a very bad game, not because they are good, but because we made them look good. We need to play as a team. Everyone must know their position and stick to the game plan. When we are losing, if everyone is agreeable that we should fight back to snatch a win, then we show it, not by using our mouth and unnecessary fights. A bunch of kids, whacking us 4 goals and laughing at us when they are not even good. We have only ourselves to blame, myself included. But the least we can do is to show that we try to fight for the ball and have a sense of urgency in everything we do on the pitch. Goal kicks, free kicks, fouls, corners, throw-ins. We should not be taking our own sweet time. If anyone wants to give up when we are losing, then we all shall do it as a team.

Discipline, maturity and focus is the key to getting our game right. Want to fight, then after game can fight. Want to argue, after game can argue. Want to play referee and linesmen, then volunteer before game. They play rough and dirty, we do not stoop to their level. We only get back to them when the ball is there. We go in hard for the ball and kill them if we have to but only to win the ball.

We win as a team. A lot of you says that you need me to win games or Amir or whoever. I thank and appreciate your compliments and praises but I don't deserve it because we win and work as a team. Soccer is not an individual game. I do not believe Team Mavericks cannot win without me. As such, I am making my KPMG corporate team a priority whenever matches clashes. But that does not mean I do not care about Mavericks. But I believe this team is capable of playing together and playing well. I have seen it before. Just a matter of whether you guys want it.

My words are nothing more than just mere feedback and thoughts as a fellow member of this awesome team. I do not wish or intend to portray any form of arrogance or disrespect to anyone in the team. Just sharing some love for my bros in Team Mavericks. If anyone is offended, then my sincere apologies to you.

Regards,
Khai

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Er Chao Xing:

thanks Khai for speaking up. i agree with u. we made them look gd. but when some of us say that we need certain players.. there are a few considerations.

1. psychological (attendance has direct impact on confidence and morale of entire squad)

2. all of us are gd in our own expertise (A can't play striker and B can't play keeper as well etc) together, the whole team is like a jigsaw puzzle. everyone is a piece of this puzzle. Mavericks still need someone who can lead the attacks. And I think you, amir and now I have a good feeling that Barry and Vic can also do the job as well. Sadly we had to depend on u only as they were not present for the previous match.

3. We have proven that teamwork has been more impt than individual talents. u and amir are the team players we need. we appreciate you for not just ur individual talents, but as team players, you showed passion and commitment. And I'm not the only one who appreciated the fact that you are playing with us.

4. I suggested playing with aggression not foul play. Show them we are capable of giving a hard game also. we give away the ball too easily in the first half. So my POV is the same as urs.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Darran Low:

actually we had almost the same midfield that has been so consistent in recent games and winning with the exception of pei cheng. my point is that what we worked over the last season just crumbled to nothing in a matter of weeks.

also, if we really look at the squad, we only have amir and khai as our natural strikers and that really sums it all up. i don't think any of us was less passionate to win the game yesterday but i think we allowed these young boys to get into our head and we could not focus on the main task at hand.

we have not become a bad team over a couple of weeks. it would probably take a few weeks before we are back to our usual self. maybe we should arrange a couple of friendlies before we start the league next time.

we make mistakes but let's all take yesterday's match as a lesson and grow from it

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Zhuo Chuanji:

I apologise to the team for the individual mistake that led to their first goal. Their 2nd goal soon ensued after some hesitant defending and the lack of a staggered defense line in the first half. There will be plenty of time for our team to reflect on before the next match. Let's pick up some crucial points and regain our winning mentality. And then hopefully in the return leg with yesterday's opponents, we will be better prepared and above them in the league table.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Er Chao Xing:

thanks everyone for the input so far. theoretically its ideal to arrange friendlies but it was not technically possible for us since the dates are so tight. dun take it too hard upon urselves. victory or defeat is shared. we win and lose together. if there's any more feedback pls do add on to the thread.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christiano Chow:

Guys, sorry that our defence went to sleep last match. I wasn't having a good game as well. But i agree with darren that our attack is limited. And this is our first match, its clear that our fitness is not there. But im sure when we have amir back, the next legaue we sure will beat them. No doubt.
