Mavericks FC Run Continues

Larger than Life Giants 2-4 Mavericks FC

Scorers: Jerome ('72), Khai ('80), Darran ('87), Pei Cheng ('90)
MOM: Harish

Pasir Ris Crest Secondary - Mavericks FC was on the verge of seeing their winning streak come to an end, but a battling second half display ensured that it continued for at least another week. Top scorer; Amir was not able to take to the pitch but Darran made his 1st appearance for the team after 2 months since his ankle injury.

The first half was a story of frustration from the Outsiders. Chance after chance was created but the finishing was poor to say the very least. The best chance of the half came from Jake who curled a freekick outside the box over the wall, only for the goalkeeper to collect neatly in his arms.

Despite their size advantage, the giants were not using it to their advantage. They were quite happy to sit back and defend. It ended 0-0 after 45 minutes.

Following the first half, signs of complacency was running throughout the team as they started playing the ball in the penalty box. The usually stable Chris gave a through pass to Jiun Wei only for the opposition to intercept and it was a one-on-one with Alex. As unlikely as it may sound, Mavericks were trailing 0-1!

Right after the shocking goal, the Outsiders restored parity following a corner. Jerome's header at the near post ricochet off a defender and it was 1-1.

Another miscommunication at the back resulted in a through ball from the opposition's right back getting past the defensive line and Alex was left helpless to stop the shot. It ended in the bottom corner of the far post. 1-2!

Star striker; Khai only made his introduction into the match in the mid point of the second half but replied with the most explosive of finishes. A pass from Faizee to Jake who controlled the ball before turning swiftly to release Khai to fire a vicious shot to the far right of the near post. 2-2! Absolutely world class!

The Outsiders finally took the lead which began thanks to some neat work between Clement and Jerome on the left. A delivered cross which was cleared saw a barrage of shots. Khai's attempt from the edge of the box was palmed away by the keeper only for Pei Cheng's follow up to be cleared off the line before Darran came in to smash it into the net to make it 3-2!

By now, Mavericks was raking in with the confidence. It was evident in their play. A through pass from Harish saw Darran running down the right byline to cross for Khai only to be cleared and Pei Cheng while fending off a defender's challenge scored a looping header into the top corner of the goal. 4-2!

It comes as a surprise how 2 headed goals were managed against a side with much more size and height. A special mention to Harish who was the MOM. Never stopped running, always wanted the ball and contributing his fair share to the attack. A midfield general.

This match will serve as a lesson to not being complacent. Next week's league game against Team Orange is a must win although mathematically it won't be crucial.

Let's finish this season on a high note!!

D2D Season 3

Hey guys,

1st proposal suggested by Sar and myself would be to have the team go for break (exam break for students) after the final league match. (Most likely to be early April till May)

2nd proposal is that we will rejoin the league as defending champions. Expect a more competitive season coming up.

According to the email they sent to us (read for reference only, likely to have changes),

"The league is slated to start in the 2nd week of April and will be aiming to expand to 2 divisions of 8 teams from the current 1 division of 6 teams."

Please share your opinions about these 2 proposals. If there are no violent objections, we will go ahead with the plans.

Mavericks FC Wins the Title!

VNPNUS 3 - 3 Mavericks FC

Scorers: Amir ('30), Khai ('35), Jiun Wei ('68)
MOM: Christiano (nb play 60 minutes still man-of-match)

Stade de Pasir Ris - Mavericks FC sealed their league title win despite a bittersweet end to what should have been a momentous event in the history of the club. With pitch conditions relatively poor, the team struggled in the opening exchanges.

With a couple of first-teamers unavailable for the match, the team managed to field in a relatively strong line-up, and abated pre-match fears that they would be unable to match up to their illustrious 2nd-placed opponents.

Despite a stuttering start, the team found its feet, and a sublime ball over the top from loan signing Torrence send Amir clear, as he brushed past his marker and lobbed it over the onrushing keeper to give the Outsiders the lead. 1-0.

And with barely 5 minutes gone, Mavericks FC went 2-0 up, this time the veteran winger turned provider, as he squared it to classy forward (and fellow SNSD fan) Khai, to place it past the keeper with a perfect finish into the bottom corner of the net.

It was all Mavericks from then on, as the first-half ended in a flurry of half-chances with Vic, Jerome and Wei Jie going close as well. HT score: 2-0.

Second half came, with a couple of substitutions made. Clarence's reign in midfield for the Outsiders was increasingly evident; with his japanese girlfriend watching from the sidelines, it was no surprise. Heehee.

The team dealt well with the high-balls into their own box, with Jiun Wei and Chuan Ji handling the VNPNUS striker, Didier Drogba, with relative ease.

World-class rightback Christiano was having a blinder down the right flank, surging up and down superbly just like his handsome childhood idol Sergio Ramos. But without Jake Tay covering him, his MOM award would not have been possible.

The Outsiders went amazingly 3-0 up, this time, with a stupendous 40-yard free-kick from Vice Captain (and team Chairman), Jiun Wei, as his free-kick sailed into the top-corner of the net. Score 3-0.

And it looked one-way from there, and soon enough, Faizy's brilliant dash into the box was illegally body-checked from behind by the viet full-back, and the referee pointed to the spot and sent him off.

However, first-choice penalty-taker Chuan Ji blazed it over the bar. He is now no longer the first-choice penalty-taker.

Then, Mavericks got complacent. Despite keeper Alex's heroics and amazing saves, the team got complacent and conceded 3 goals. In the final 10 minutes. Aiyo. No mood to write about this lah.

Anyway, right at the death, it could been a victory for the men in white, but Amir's free-kick hit the top of the bar. The team held on for the final minutes of the game, albeit, barely. Aiyo. Final Score: 3-3.

But nevertheless, a draw means, we have gotten just enough points to seal the league title!

Well-done dudes. Let this be a lesson in complacency, and turn this into strength. Let's win our final league match. Although we have won the league title, and amazingly stayed unbeaten throughout the season, let's not cock up our final game okayz!

We'll take Team Orange FC seriously in the next game! Which means, Clement won't play striker in the next match. Fine thank you.

Mavericks Maintains Great Form!

Teenage Drug-Popping Kidz FC 1 - 2 Mavericks FC

Remember this? Click Here!

Stadio el Orchide Parkus -
The Outsiders counted on their luck for being blessed with the most expensive goalkeeper in local football today and an abundance of awesome left-backs within their ranks as a sterling team effort saw off a determined TDPK FC on a totally hot Saturday afternoon.

The win extended their recent great run of form which sets up nicely for their final two league games as they look to win their first league title and etch themselves in the history of the club since its inception in 1939.

With the Outsiders missing several first-teamers, it wasn't going to be a bad day as first thought as they came out on top with yet another superb performance by Mavericks custodian Alex as he didn't do anything for the whole match except for THAT magnificent penalty save in the dying moments of the match to preserve the lead. Haha.

With several new faces in the side, the team did well enough to see off the challenges of their more technical opponents, as they accumulated a world record of 38 fouls and conceded 38 free-kicks in a match, as they hassled their opponents to oblivion.

Match-day loan signings Maxe, Faizal, and Amir (no, not the same Amir. But Faizy's friend) were more than capable replacements as the Outsiders got off to a fine start, with new left-back Amir (yes, the usual Amir. And yes, playing left-back le!) overlapped and chipped in a great through-ball for striker Maxe to lift it over the top of the keeper to make it 1-0.

However, amidst heavy sustained pressure minutes before half-time, their opponents whacked a rocket into the Mavericks top corner to make things even again. 1-1. If Alex wasn't able to save that, we're pretty sure Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon won't be able to save it either. Casillas too. A quality equaliser nonetheless.

Second-half was a close-knitted affair, as the Outsiders grew in confidence as the trio of Faizal, Faizy and Oreo won the battle in midfield.

And soon enough, a chance was carved, this time, Seng Yew (
usually a left-back, and a cultured one too) curled in a ball over the top for Amir (the usual Amir) to latch onto it. He got off the challenges of 3 players, and barely got a shot in. It trickled in with the keeper getting a touch to it. A tyco goal, but still a goal dammit. 2-1.

Despite captain Chao Xing conceding a penalty late in the game, it proved futile for TDPK FC as Alex dived the right way, and palmed the ball away and saved the penalty! All this while with his eyes closed! Awesome!

With the likes of Vic, Jake and Jerome looking threatening each time on the counterattack, the new look mavericks backline consisting of Chao Xing, Jiun Wei, Chuan Ji and Amir held on for the win.

Clement will be sad to see that he has dropped down the pecking order at left-back. Heehee. All the more reason because naughty boys like Chris and Clement always go clubbing before matchday. Hmmpf!

Final Score 2-1. Great win lads! Let's continue this great run, and win our final league games!
