Continued League Action

The current vote is still a YES for league action. But the timing is yet to come to a consensus. Although people have stated their different preferences..

5pm Saturday is currently a bigger NONO compared to 9am Sunday. Reasons I gathered are somewhat along the line, "I'm used to 3pm" and "Saturday evenings are outing timings!!" Well, we all are used to 3pm. Why can't the others be as objective as the Outsiders? That 3pm is the best timing for matches! No need to wake up too early and also to avoid the heat of mid-noon. And most importantly, we still can go out with our "Friends of Mavericks" on Saturday chillout sessions! Well, we are a horny friendly bunch of bastards guys afterall..

And apparently the current issue is that not many people think the same way as us. (that's why we are Mavericks right? haha) and this has made 3pm league less feasible for the league organisers.

Let's hold out for a better schedule first if possible. We'll try our best to get a 3pm league from other companies but currently there aren't any feasible deals (costs incurred) that we know of. If any of you knows of any other 3pm leagues, do let us know asap.

Yes and since the 5pm league is starting in about 2 weeks time, and we are due to take a season break for exams.. We are highly unlikely to continue in 5pm Saturday offered by D2Dsports. We can still play friendlies here and there. And Clement needs another assistant to help him arrange matches.. (Where's that girls' team that wanted to challenge us to a 'friendly' match? haha)

The ideal month to resume active kicking should be in late May or June after NTU, NUS and SIM students come back from their "ordeals". Clement, I need you to assist me to settle this asap preferably by next week so it won't affect our impending exam preparations.

Mavericks maintain unbeaten run in hard-fought draw

Latest from The Outsiders Times! YOUR only source of news for Mavericks FC and everything else associated with the club.

  • FT Score: Cheshire Utd 1 Mavericks 1

Scorers: Kee Siang ('70 pen)
Assists: Khai
MOM: Barry

Stadio Bedok Greenie -
The Outsiders finished off their league season with a hard fought 1-1 draw and had to be content with a share of the spoils on a rain-soaked afternoon of football. A relatively good result, and a performance which could have got them so much more, looking at their strength in depth on the bench. Pacy forward Jerome had passed a late fitness test, as with the return of Fuad to the squad after a long-term layoff.

However, the Outsiders were dealt with a big blow right before kick-off as pitbull midfielder Chung Wei was forced to pull out of the match at the last moment, as he had pulled his thigh. And thus Chung Wei took off his jersey and put on his coat instead, as he chewed chewing gum by the touchline as manager for the day.

The men in white started brightly, against a Devan-inspired Cheshire Utd, who had trouble breaking down the Mavericks midfield in the first half with Khai, who was his usual battling self, enduring knocks time and time again. Midzi's tireless running upfront made it difficult for the Cheshire defence, with Kee Siang and Barry controlling things in the middle of the park.

Second half was an open affair, with both sides spending in their opponent's half in turns. However, the Mavericks defence stood firm, with the makeshift centre-back pairing of Chris and Jiun Wei dealing well with the offenses offered by the men in black. Particularly, the full-backs, Chao Xing and Clement had great outings today, as they managed to subdue the Cheshire wingers relatively well...no wait. Like totally. Haha.

The Outsiders took the lead against the run of play in the 70th minute, after Khai was hacked down in the box, and playmaker Kee Siang duly dispatched it brilliantly past Bruce Grobelaar the goalkeeper. However, a dipping shot from their striker brought the equaliser late in the game and restored parity, as the ball swerved past Alex.

The Outsiders put in determined displays in the attacking half, with Fuad's and Faizy's increasing influence down the flanks. The former, however, was on the end of a late scuffle with a Cheshire player. The irritating Devan showed once again what an irritating arse he can be by getting involved as well.

The plum, pompous, petulant priss even had the odesity to dive in the Mavericks penalty box, albeit, in motion slower than slow motion. Almost Matrix-like. He should learn a thing or two the perfect art of diving from winger Amir instead! The scuffle eventually died down, but Devan couldn't stop running his mouth like the jabroni that he is.

An equation to show this:

arsewipe
x infinity + jabroni = Devan

Standard Deviation of a nincampoop =

Devan²
x a Can of Sardines

Soon enough, the referee blew for the final whistle with 5 minutes of injury time added on, as a dedication to Khai who suffered many types of injuries today. Haha. Barry won the Man of the Match award after a masterclass performance today, and journalists loitered around the dressing room after the match, anticipating a rare interview with the diminutive midfield man, who's known to shy away from the press whenever he could.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Journalist: Mr. Barry! Can we have a word with you?
Barry: Sure.
Journalist 1 : How do you feel about your performance today? Your namesake, Gareth Barry, Aston Villa's star midfield player, would have been proud of this performance in the middle of the park himself!
Barry: Yeah, it was good.
Journalist 2 : .....Okay. Next question. Do you think the result was fair? Do you feel that your team could have actually won it?
Barry: Yeah, i think so.
Journalist 3 : ........ So do you think after this experience of playing in the league alongside one of the best midfielders in world football today, Kee Siang, have made you a more complete player?
Will this formidable partnership achieve greater heights in the near future perhaps?
Barry: Yeah, should be.
Journalist 1 : (whispering to other journalists) Remind us not to interview him anymore.
Journalist 2: (pointing at Clement down the dressing room hallway) Hey! Let's go ask him about how he finally put his muscles to good use in today's match!
Mavericks have extended their great unbeaten run in the new strip to 6 games. New Kit Magic!
Currently, we are still at the bottom half. There is a chance we can get to the top half with a win this Saturday!
Confirm attendance asap.
Ms. Cherrypie's Opponent Review:
"I have did some research on our opponents, and i have found several things about them. They're definitely older than us, and are a very tactically-inclined team. They have tall pacy forwards, and guys, prepare for a tough and physical match. Our opponents are a highly experienced team, and only a battling performance can ensure we get something from the game. They're reeling from a disappointing loss in their previous match, and expect them to go on an all-out onslaught. Yes, we have Chung Wei back in the side. But that's not gonna be enough. We need 11 Chung Weis tomorrow. All the best fellas."
"As you walk down the fairway of life you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round."
"Embrace your fear, and turn it into strength" - Darth Vader
Make this match count guys. Let's go for a victory.
League Season 2
I'm sure many have burning questions about the new season. These are a few of those I have compiled so far. More details to be disclosed once Clement has more updates. The voting is open now. Do we continue with league soccer? Are we gonna accept the invitation to renew our participation in the D2Dsports 5pm league?
In short, is everyone game for season 2?
Alternatively, we can always change to a Sunday league if you prefer it that way.
  • Venue: Which areas will the matches be played at? (We miss Sembawang.)
  • Timeslots: 5pm, Saturdays.
  • Opponents: Level of difficulty, age-groups etc.. league is most likely to have more teams than our first season.
  • Payment: Very likely to remain the same.
  • When does it kick off?: Reminder that many of us are having exams in the period from April to May..
We will leave the decision to voting. Please vote with your name or a recognisable nick please. Thanks!
League Update (Important)
According to D2DSports, the new Saturday league, which is due to commence in approximately 2 weeks time, will be fused together with the 5pm one. Hence there will no longer be a sole 3pm Saturday league but a mixture of both.
Teams will play either 3pm or 5pm matches at random every Saturday, but the management has indicated that the majority will be played at 5pm.
Please indicate your preference on whether to continue with the Saturday one or to switch to the Sunday league, which has many more time slots. We need to give a reply soon or we risk being fined or even kicked out of the league by the management .So do leave a comment as soon as possible.
On a side note, there will not be a league match for us this weekend. Anyone up for friendly? So far we have an opponent waiting for us but it's at 5pm this Saturday. Or will another timeslot be better? Comment!
Last Game's Focus and Season's Closing
Good job guys for last week's performance. Never mind the minor slip-ups most of us had. I understood the team went hoping to dent our opponent's unbeaten run but only to have our high spirits dampened slightly by the heavy rain and guts slightly unnerved by the thunder. Never mind the "what if Darran and Khai were still playing" hypothetical scenarios also. Overall, I believed we had continued to show our character and nerve. Never mind whoever said we were lucky to draw anot.
To me, I only saw that we didn't stop believing until the last minute. And only that matters.
I salute Kee Siang and Taufiq for bringing us back into the game on 3 occasions. They deserve their limelight. And I believe every single playing or non-playing member on that day, deserves the credit as well.
We'll be coming to the end of our first season. Currently we are level with Dirty Dozen who has a game in hand. But there is still a chance for us to up our position if we win our next match in a convincing manner given a prior condition that Dirty Dozen slipped up in their following matches. They already did against Woodlandsvista last week. So the 5th position is up to them to lose, if and only if we win the next match.
And we have been invited again to participate in the 2nd season. Further details like other participating teams are not out yet.
I would like you guys to reflect upon this league experience. Has league football changed you as a player or even as a person? If yes, what are the changes? Do you think you will want to continue? Please leave it at a personal level since this is all about you. Please share with us your thoughts here if you don't mind.
Mavericks draws in high-octane clash
Latest from The Outsiders Times! YOUR only source of news for Mavericks FC and everything else associated with the club.
  • FT Score: Total Football FC 3 Mavericks 3
Scorers: Taufiq ('22), Kee Siang ('61), ('79),
Assists: Amir (2)
MOM: Kee Siang
Stadio Bedok Greenie - A truly exhilarating match to behold for the neutral observer. Mavericks FC came back thrice from behind to secure the share of the spoils in this not-so-stale-mate. Total Football were the league's only unbeaten team, and it was no surprise that the Outsiders came into the match as underdogs. To be truthful to the naysayers, the match could have gone either way, as both side had several gilt-edge chances, in this surprisingly open game.
Against the run of play, with the Outsiders dominant in the opening exchanges in the gloomy downpour of the afternoon, Total Football FC took the lead, from yet another corner, truly exploiting the weakness of the men in white. Things took for the worse, as their youthful energetic opponents increased their lead within 10 minutes, from the penalty spot, courtesy of Chris' late challenge FROM outside of the box. Well, when things don't go your way, lady luck loves to rub it in and shine her shiny arse on ya.
However, Mavericks slowly found their groove back, and within minutes, a left-footed corner-kick was floated in by Amir and striker Taufiq met it with a fine finish, sidefooting it home to reduce the deficit. Both players had earlier missed a great chance, with their follow-up shots denied in a great double-save from the keeper. Half-time: 1-2.
Second-half resumed, and both sides had their fair share of possession, however, with Alex in goal, the Mavericks defence stood resolute with new centre-back signing Alvin and Chuan Ji winning all the high balls. Kee Siang's dominance in the game started to show, and he was time and time again in the centre of the Outsiders' attack.
Torres-like Taufiq was holding well in attack after being deployed as the lone striker, with Khai missing. Jiun Wei's biting tackles shackled the Total Football midfield which was spearheaded by Eric Djemba-Djemba, and this was just the spur the team needed.
In the 78th minute, Amir went on a surging run before letting rip a shot which forced the keeper to push it wide for a corner. The winger, made his set-piece count again, with a dipping cross into the box, which ended with Kee Siang smashing the ball into the roof of the net after a goalmouth scramble to make things level again. 2-2.
However, things were not to be, and just like the dark clouds in the sky, it suddenly became gloomy as the Outsiders surrendered yet another soft goal to their opponents. 2-3.
The opponents threatened again soon, with Aaron Lennon down the right looking lively. However, veteran left-back Clement Sar showed why fans called him the "munjen" Evra, as he made things difficult for the winger.
However, things looked up for the Outsiders soon, as with 10 minutes left in the game, legendary midfielder Kee Siang won a free-kick outside the box. He stepped up and blasted it towards goal, which was directed into the roof of the net after a deflection from a defender, who was caught in two minds after Faizy challenged with him for the ball. Brilliant goal!
Parity was restored, and the team could have pressed on more, if not for the referee who blew for the final whistle. Final Score 3-3.
In a post-match analysis, Shebby Shebster Singh, showed a rare voice of support for the Outsiders, a team he hasn't shown much respect recently, ever since the takeover by the club's new Owner. When asked what he thought of the match, he said this:
"It was, i think, in my sincere opinion, if not, one of the best, in my opinion, i think, an exciting match to watch for neutrals fans unlike me. It was, if not, a game, i think, a game of two great attacking sides, and i feel, if not, i honestly say, that it was a really enjoyable match."
"And lastly, i have to disagree to whoever thought that a team with 11 Kee Siangs in the starting eleven could win the Barclay's English Premier League. I, for one, honestly, truly, madly, deeply, do believe that a team with 11 Shebby Singhs would win it though. Because i am a great defender, midfielder, striker, and not to mention, something Kee Siang will never be, that is, a goalkeeper. I am the perfect player's player's player."
"I'm more versatile than John O'Shea. And i have represented the Malaysian Soccer Team in the 1980's, something even Maradona could not be said to have done."
~ On a sidenote, Mavericks FC have stretched their unbeaten run in the league to 5 games, and this coincided with the arrival of the new jersey. New Kit - Magic!~
Total Football FC remains the only unbeaten team in the league. They are definitely a force to be reckoned with. It's time for Team Mavericks to step up to another level. But the Outsiders have enjoyed a good run of 2 wins and 1 draw (unfortunate) ever since the curse of the Line7 jersey was lifted. Statistics don't count for everything. Character and drive do. And sometimes luck too. The Outsiders are likely to field a full squad this weekend.
"He either fears his fate too much,
Or his deserts are small,
That puts it not unto the touch
To win or lose it all"
---- Marquis of Montrose
Courage is not the lack of fear but the ability to face it.
Let's make it happen, dudes.
